The END of FUNK? 2016

Is that it? , Prince has a Vault - inside is what is left of FUNK, has FUNK as a music ART form gone?

Uptown Funk - is a POP sample - will we ever see the real thing again, Pure FUNK?

You realize George Clinton and Bootsy Collins are still alive right?

George's new stuff relies too much on hiphop producers and rappers to be the real deal anymore. There was some decent funk stuff included on the previous "Funkadelic" release, but a lot of it had been recorded ages ago already. Bootsy? He's been a hit and miss, but maybe he'll perk up for the next release. His material has been just too overproduced in general.

Prince really was the only "bigger artist" whose funk stuff still sounded "close enough" to the stuff he did when he came up with his own take of funk in the 80s

--- You hit the nail on the head. It is really the beginning of the end of funk.

I've noticed a lot of people have a strong aversion to funk, like the generations that didn't grow up with it. At least when I've played P Funk to people I've known, nobody seems to dig it unless they're another musician. Once it's filtered and watered down via Dr Dre, Bruno Mars or whoever then it becomes palatable, but I can't imagine another all out P Funk style band breaking into the mainstream these days, they might be able to build a Phish-style underground following though.

There's no need to be so dramatic.

Have faith in the future, funk is not going anywhere and will continue to have skilled practioners, including some that have yet to be born.

Sly Stone's still alive? eek

I was talking to a friend about him last week and we came to the conclusion he'd gone.

Funk ain't dead, it's still here. It's just in hiding until the right people come along and claim it.

I'm telling you the next Parliament is something nice. He has been leaking snippets of it on periscope and it's a return to form. The last Bootsy album was strong and he's back in the studio too.

A lot of underground funk rumbling thru the world right now too. As GC so succinctly puts it "funk ain't never going nowhere it's forever coming".

It might have to be locked back up in the secrets of the pyramids until a more positive attitude towards this most sacred phenomenon can be acquired.

George is too old, Sly is strung out on drugs...So yeah Prince was the last great, true funk artist. So yeah its over sad The current generation may pick it up, but who knows. My son who is 22 was listening to Bootsy Collins last week and it surprised the hell oughtta me lol So I guess Im hopeful.

Yeah Dam Funk is the shiz-nit! He's a big P fan too. My favorite by him is "I Like Your Big Ass"...reminds me of P from the "S.O.T.T" era.

To be fair, Prince was never PURE FUNK either. So your question is invalid.

I'm going to see George Clinton in June. I'm pretty sure I'll find funk alive and well.
