Vault: update as of Saturday Parallel technologies out of Eden Prairie is currently at Paisley. They specialize in IT server migration. Looks like the vault is being digitized or at least the computers in the studios are. Good stuff. | |

Another report said that there were hundreds of cassettes. Who the heck has a cassette player anymore?? Seriously though if the vault contains taped media the tape loses its magnetism over time.... | |

They are actually probably talking about reel to reel cassettes - they were industry standard for a long time - not the little cassette tapes we'd put in our walkman. | |

I assumed it's reel to reel... and I wonder the condition at this point if they are truly being digitized. It was said well over 10 years ago that some tapes were so gummy they needed baked. | |

This is number 2 on my list of completely unexpected things that happened in the last 10 days.
What I expected was more along the lines of Prince outliving me and the vault being opened and digitized after I've bought old man Johnson's farm.
It's incredible to think about what might happen -- the possibilities, the risks.
