Hello! My name is Crystal and I am 23 years old. For most of my life, I've heard Prince's music in my house. My mother was a die-hard Prince fan. I used to wake up on the weekends to her blasting "If I Was Your Girlfriend" (it was her favorite). Myself, since I was a baby, I was the die-hard Michael fan (I hope I don't rub anyone wrong by mentioning that.) it was like a little competition between us. The only thing I knew I liked of Prince's was Purple Rain (yes, unfortunately, I was one of those as a kid) I had this perception of Prince growing up that he was an "adult" artist. Not really for kids. My mother safeguarded most of music from me until my teen years.

And then 3121 was released in 2006 and I bought it for my mother on her birthday. She invited me to listen and I fell in love with that album. I've been a casual fan of his ever since. Not really obsessed. Didn't keep up with everything but a fan nonetheless. And then he passed and everything changed.

My mother is currently recovering from her second stroke. Things are different. She doesn't really remember a lot about those days. I remember everything I called her the day he passed and she cried like I had never heard before for him. It broke my heart. She lives hours away and for reasons (school and work) I couldn't go see her. For the last week, I've found myself researching and studying this man. I truly do adore him. And I understand why my mother loved him so much. I've been having a blast discovering the world of Prince. I've also been on this forum reading entries from many of you die-hards. I don't think I'll ever be able to learn everything you all do or what my mother did. But I'll take what I can. I've been listening to her Prince albums and I hope to carry my mother's love for him for many more years to come.
