The Media Trying to make Prince a poster child

Why are they trying to make him a poster child for opioid addiction? It's disturbing how they are tearing him down sad They're acting like he wasn't in pain but just a drug addict...it's so sad to see his legacy tarnished like this.

I know...they're trying to make us believe he was living some drug addict life when just last week the world was bathed in purple. It's just not right...if I could protest all their asses I would.

I certainly don't think a prescription drug addiction is legacy tarnishing. It has been documented AT LENGTH that if it is one thing that is easy to get hooked on and EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to break away from, its prescription drugs.

If anything, more light is being shined on a highly dangerous situation that TONS of people struggle with. Maybe this will open some peoples eyes and lead them to getting professional help and/or (hopefully) the industry might be scrutinized much more than it is currently.

Recreational drugs, now that's a different matter... but, having said all that, lets wait on the final autopsy report...

I don't think this is a bad thing if it turns out to be true.

yes but their stories are not sounding that way...they are insinuating that he was an addict. Prince is not the first person to die from an overdose or using pain pills and he won't be the last. But why use him to now all of a sudden wanna do something about?

it is bad...but still doesn't give them the right to insert his name in every opioid story neutral

They are using him because of his influence and celebrity status.

If one story of how using pills to get through the pain and accidentally overdosing saves one life out there, then in my opinion that is another wonderful thing to put in his legacy.

Pharmaceutical drug addiction and overdoses are real and this country needs to wake up to the way we simply over-medicate people without thinking of the risks. If this brings it to light and makes a change then I am all for it and I think Prince would be all for it as well (the pills gonna leave a side effect that it takes another pill to correct and the whole thing leaves you feeling less than good).

Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up

Prince was a private person but, I think he'd want this.

If it's true, he's another victim of doctors passing out opioids like Tic Tacs. And people need to know that they can't just pop a pill whenever they're in pain, they need to find other ways of pain management. He'll be a wakeup call if it's true. I think he'd want to save people's lives.

My experience from working in addiction services/rehab n detox is that yes he had a problem but he is not your typical pill popping addict. I really don't think that he would've wanted to be seen like that either. I know they're using his celebrity status but he was human first and this is just not right.

nursev, I'm with you...It's tough to see Prince portrayed in this way. He obviously had pain to deal with, but that doesn't mean he was any drug addict. disbelief

Pain is the issue...I mean its obvious that his pain management was the problem but yet I wake up to CNN and Prince's picture all over their opioid addiction story and these so called experts describing what he did when they have no damn clue what he was living with daily.

I doubt that he'd want to be remembered as dying like this and then being used to get a point across confused

I agree, and Prince was known as someone who really took care of himself...They should be more careful how they report all this.

Problem is, our boy Skipper always presneted himself as above it all..Therefore when he dies the way he did, of course they are going to do that.,,i dont know if it is about tearing him down i think it is more of, we told you percocets were highly addictive, if it can take a person like Prince down , no one is immune...It could be a great teachable moment

they wont...its money for them, but just terrible reporting. This is not a man that was a "known drug addict" I just dont see how they can insinuate that when he wasnt. Hell I know and take care of addicts and they cant focus on shit much less perform.

YES! People have to realize that PAIN is something that can lead you to do anything. I have struggled with back pain and chronic knee pain on and off for years and plain and simple it is something that I have to live with, some days are OK and some days I'm taking something for it. NOW if it was extreme pain like possibly Prince was dealing with and I had money to keep getting something to take it away, I probably would regardless of my knowing that these things can be addictive and dangerous, PAIN clouds judgement many times. We will never know HOW severe his pain was because he was so Private and rightly so, we should NOT know, and people can say what they want but the only ONE that knows what and how much pain the body is in, is the person themselves, so let TMZ and ET and CNN paint Prince however they want, people with the REAL minds will seek out truth and gossip junkies that want a quite sound byte answer are who they are.

As someone posted above, this could save lives and could lead to regulation or change in doctors/pharmacist practices. I think I heard somewhere that the US is ridiculously lax when it comes to these drugs and by far outpaces the world on a per cap basis.

Its such B.S. and not adding up.. I'd understand if Prince made it a habit or reputation of being late for his shows and other business dealings. As we all know Prince rarely cancelled shows. Prince never appeared to be high or "out of it" IF he was this drug addict theyre painting him out to be we as fans and his employees wouldve definitely saw signs. and more negative stories wouldve came out over years. Im leaning towards something that was accidental than a true drug habit.. but of course as fans we're biased.

They're making up for 38 years of never being able to pin anything on him. It drove the tabloids nuts that he was never in trouble or any scandal whatsoever. Only Prince could pull off being "his royal badness" and never be caught in a compromising position.

Opiods dont make you "high". They get you "even". You seriously feel 22 again. No aches no pain alert content. This is why they are so dangerous.

In part it's the timing. Anyone who follows a lot of general media has been able to see that cracking down on opiods has become a priority for the Obama administration. They've worked hard to generate escalating coverage on this issue to get the public behind stricter laws and regulations - if not behind, at least to tamp down objections.

The speculation and resultant coverage is absolutely perfect, free coast-to-coast publicity for this campaign that has been already underway, and I'm sure there is encouragement behind the scenes with some media organizations to keep the volume up.

Oh im not surprised they're throwing in the kitchen chair on poor prince. He is the biggest celeb in the world.I'd be more surprised if they didn't.This is going to get really bad if he didn't even have a prescription and here is why.Someone will be arrested and it will be a trial and they will go back in princes life when he was a first grader and beyond. They will look at what his brother said about him in 2006 about the pills. They will look at what happened in 1997.They may even check to see if his ex ex wife was on something when she was pregnant.Did you guys not see watch or follow the mj trial .Now as everyone one on the world has said 'HE WAS PRIVATE' So then how the hell is all this info getting out ask yourself that.Keep in mind that after he fired his brother he (prince) had to get a PFA against him.May his brother R.I.P but, damn.Stories are sold to the press. The lady that had pictures and video of him riding his bike was offered tons of money to give up her pictures and camera. They're shocked that she said 'NO' Because most people would.Doesn't it break your hearts that when people would stand in princes face and hold up a cell phone to take his picture he would say to them (please dont)He was protective of his image.I'm pissed today because we are being called dumb, crazy and in denial on some sites.First off in the great sound of whitney houston 'Their Flack is Whack'...We are fam,We're followers, long time love of him and his message. Not just his music but, him. We understood and understand what his vision was and is.Long after the press moves on we will still be here hurting. Most of these younger kids only talk about 'purple rain' or the color he loved. He was more then that.We his true fans are realistic some are really mad at him.Me myself im up im down im spun all around.Maybe im wrong and selfish to say this but,i feel that the true fans can have their thoughts because its from the heart. Sorry everyone its jmho

one of his old butlers did an "Ask Me Anything" on Reddit and though he had stories of orgies and drugs from parties with Rick Saloman, Pam Anderson and even a bit on Elton John he had nothing to report about Prince other than the only alcohol he touched being this one particular red wine with a meal.

I couldn't care less about prescription drugs for pain - not scandalous at all IF thats what took our man. look at rugby/soccer/american football players , boxers and other sports people after their prime , like Sheila E says, Prince was always jarring his legs, hips etc and from Kevin smith and the above mentioned butler the only time he was even dressed in comfy clothes and without heels on was for stuff like a quick game of basketball
