Perfect. Save your prayers. Controversy Sick is not the word to describe how I have been feeling. But today was the first time I was able to listen to a full song, and Controversy was the one. The reason I listened to it, was another post in this forum, where they talked about Prince's response to a tweet from a friend who asked how he was doing to which he replied. "Perfect. Save your prayers. Controversy."
Then I thought about Prince telling his fans to "Save thier prayers" And also another statement from him where he said he was listening to Controversy and smiling.
What a weird response to how are you doing? Number one, you just got out of the hospital, and still very sick so definitely not "Perfect". Second she did not say she was praying for you. And thirdly, just a random song... So I found the courage to listen to it. The first song I have been able to listen to since he passed and it sent chills up and down my spine.
Until WBH, I have always thought that Controversy was Prince's most personal song. Even though he poses questions to the listeners, I always thought he was talking about his inner Controversy of who he was.
For him to have quoted this song so much, made me wonder is he was comtemplating his life. Or perhaps he knew of his fate, and that there would be controversy around his passing. Or maybe he was just listening to old records to take himself back in time to help with them with his memoirs. But as I listened to it, the events of the last few days played in my mind. Every question he asked, has been asked since his death....
Am I black or white, am I straight or gay? Do I believe in God? Do I believe in me? I can't understand human curiosity Was it good for you, was I what you wanted me to be?
Then I he prayed and a chill went through my body and I swear it was like I have never heard this song before. Maybe he wanted everyone to save thier prayers because he was listening to himself pray? Or was he praying for us?
Maybe my grief is making put more into things. Maybe this is nothing, but this is the last song he mentioned and maybe it means something. But I thought to myself, after all these years did anyone ever answer those questions?
Am I black or white? Your black. Are you straight or Gay? Your straight. Do I believe in God? You do believe in God, Jehovah, etc. Do I believe in me? Yes, you believed in yourself, you said you were the best. Was it good for you, was I what you wanted me to be? There is no words to explain what was good for me, and you were what I more than I wanted you to be. Do you get high? Maybe Does your daddy cry? I'm sure he did when it snowed this April Life is just a game, we're all the same? Do you want to play? Yes, life is a game, and we're all the same, and yes, I want to play, your music for the rest of mine.
I cannot hear the word perfect without thinking of peace. Perfect peace is when you've accepted everything that is, and to come. Maybe he had, and that's why he was felt perfect.
Maybe he told us to save our prayers, because he knew that we would need them.
Maybe he wanted us to listen to Controversy so that he can pray for us.
Maybe I am reaching, but Controversy is healing me. My brother Prince is praying for me, cause I surely need it right now.

I wonder if it was just the song or the album. He's left us wondering a lot. We're still in Princeworld even if he isn't. | |
