His legacy is the thing that matters

Amidst all the rumours, speculations and second guessing the thing that remains unaffected is his legacy.

For me like others,of course i'm curious about the cause of death as it was so sudden and at such a young age but, even if some of the rumours/current headlines turn out to be true,it really doesn't affect my opinion of him or indeed my enjoyment of his music

To me Prince was always the sound of summer-my fave lps (Purple Rain,Atwiad,Parade,Sign o the times and Lovesexy) were on constant rotation on my turntable(yes, vinyl!!!)wink

He was also the sound of my teenage years and really all the things I learned about music, sex, passion and emotion came from his music

It was Prince that pretty much single-handedly made me become a musician and continue to have a career in music today.I bought my first electric guitar back in the 80's (a purple paisley tokai telecaster) because of him and never looked back.

I currently have him constantly keeping an eye on me in my studio by the way of an original 80's Purple rain video store counter stand!

It is of course incredibly sad when someone you admire so much goes far too soon but what should be celebrated (and the cause of happiness even in these times) is the incredible wealth of music he left behind and indeed the mouthwatering idea of so many songs we haven't heard-even with so many bootlegs available

No newspaper or trashy rumour pedalling website can ever take away our memories of counting down the days till an lp release and excitedly opening it or bundling into a car with your friends and playing the albums full volume on the way to a concert singing along to every word.

That's because if you're a Prince fan, from the casual to the complete fanatic he is ingrained in your life at some stage and that will never go.

In this social media crazy world where people are posting their every movement,Prince was one of the last bastions of mystery and mystique so in someways I guess that it's only fitting that even mystery surrounds his death

Yes,I still well up every time his name is mentioned in a tribute (D'angelo totally got me) but what I do know is that his music is always there to remind me of the good times and that will never change

Turn Table.... lol... Isnt it odd that they are now the hip things again?

And yes I agree. His legacy is what mattered.
