Thank you for posting this. I wish they'd got a quote from Harrison's son.

I'll never forget his smile. That's probably all that he needed to say!

I loved reading this-

"And Prince was a great fan of George’s, and the Beatles in general, but I think he particularly admired George. I think George would have liked it a lot."

- as The Beatles are my # 2 obsession and creative guidepost.

You can bet that the collision of Prince back in 1985 with "Around the World in a Day" and Sgt Peppers just as I was personally diving into the Beatles (reading books, watching docuentaries) helped seal the deal on just how fun and creative Prince could be.

When that Rockn Roll Hall of Fame aired... I was floored... and so proud of Prince, because this was a performance of a classic, epic Beatles song with some legendary musicians I was nervous (kind of like I was nervous before the Superbowl halftime). I'm so glad it's made the rounds and has gotten millions of views.

Isn't that crazy that some of us felt nervous for Prince before these big performances as if he was a family memeber we were rooting for?

I'm just sad that Prince and Paul McCartney never worked together that we know of. McCartney is a HUGE fan. I've heard him say so in live interviews and such. He would try to check out Prince tours.

Too funny about the nervous for Prince part, I was always nervous for him on these live performances, clearly the only one not nervous was Prince, the brother didn't even rehearse! That's our Prince!

At the time many piled on Prince for 'showboating' - I maintained then that they loved it, and expected him to! Look at Dhanis face! It was all for him and Prince just kills it.

You dont invite PRINCE to SOLO and expect him to 'blend' lolololol

Plus guitar face is in full effect here and when I saw it I was screaming at the TV and it still brings goosebumps everytime I see it.

I love that man. Loved him loving music. Loved him loving life.

When that awards show was first broadcast on TV, when they would go to commercial they would show backstage for a few seconds, there was a shot of Dani (I think that's his name) looking for Prince and he still had that huge smile on his face...

McCartney saw him play this New Years in St Barts at Abramhovics party

The greatest moment in Prince's career, imo, as far as after the NUDE Tour.

I've always been curious what the other musicians on stage thought about what happened that night. Now I now and I love it. I'd read it before somewhere but basically it's confirmed here again that prince played that night without a proper rehearsal! So amazing ... yes

I honestly believe he was performing as much for the cameras and audience as he was for those other musical legends onstage.

I just love the fact that he didnt rehearse, and was like "don't worry about it", then come back and nails it. All the musicians there were stunned at his performance.

Another great article and more clues as to Princes personality. Really enjoyed the anecdote about him starting to strum the Average White Band song. Also good to read that the others did want him onstage and thought it was a good performance.

Thanks for posting this article. I've commented on it in the other thread suggesting the idea that the core band wasn't enthusiastic about Prince's involvement--which was bunk (save that one Jeff Lynne's band's guitarist). I hadn't seen your post, first. I wondered about the reason for such a ripping solo, and I guess Prince did it right.

I always wondered what the rest of the performers thought of that night. I remember Dhani Harrison saying that afterwards "I just wanted to hug him" - I think he meant Prince smile
