Prince referencing Dr Fink - I don't need no doctor. This whole moment in his last performance intrigued me. I'm sorry if this has been posted else where.
So Prince starts playing a wonderfully frantic hook on the piano and starts by saying ' I don't need no Doctor'
Then goes into a conversation ,I imagine he had with Dr Fink about his name.
Whats your name anyway?
Dr.
Fink?
You mean Funk don't you?
Really Fink?
You took out the u and put in an i ?
I meaning u ?
Really? Fink?
I'm talking about Funk.
I don't need no doctor.
Now as far as i'm aware this wasn't a part of another song and seems to just be a light funny story to tell over the music. But it doesn't seem improvised.Of course with prince anything could be but it seemed structured. idk. Can anyone shed any light on this momeny?
The fact he starts and ends with I don't need no doctor, to my mind that could've been what he said when he went to hospital a few days before and stayed for a short while then left. Who knows. But that is what i think. He didn't feel he needed a doctor.
I just found this bit quite mysterious and stood out in the show. Any views?
Thanks

I listened to his final Atlanta show on Saturday night and this conversation jumped out at me as well. It's delivered perfect by Prince and I wonder if there is a story behind it also. So disappointed I didn't drive the 2 hours to Atlanta to see him that night. Even listening to the shoddy recording of that night you can feel the electricity. [Edited 4/28/16 13:36pm] | |
