D'Angelo and the Revolution After seeing that amazing rendition of Sometimes It Snows In April last night on Fallon, I wonder if anyone else would love to see D'Angelo connect with The Revolution and tour? He is literally the only person who should lead the vocals of his songs on stage. It would be a beautiful way to celebrate his songs and bring them to life again (with The Revolution). D'Angelo understands the nuances of the music and the vocals. You can tell he's studied these songs his whole life.

Nah, TTD/ Sananda would be an ideal choice IMO .

He's already played with Eric Leeds and Jesse Johnson is in his band. The idea of him performing with the Revolution is quite feasible.

Either D or Sananda with the Revolution would be a great choice I think.

Ex-Moderator | Wendy sang when they reunited in 2012 fpr Bobby Z's heart benefit. I'd love to see her do that again. |

Abolutely not, the Revolution is fine on their own. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

I wouldn't mind. D was mimicking Prince's performance style and music while Prince was alive. Why not do it now? His cover of "Sometimes It Snows In April" was poignant and nuanced. It's a little weird thinking about anyone singing Pirnce's music with the band Prince founded without Prince himself but maybe months from now, I could bring myself to embrace it. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea

D'angelo is so overrated.

Nobody can replace Prince, so why even try? It's a bit disrespectful as well to have any other front man aside from Prince for this revolution tribute. It's not about filling the spot with the next best thing, it's about honoring the one who is longer here anymore. Hi all
I'm not sure why he would do it, or whether I'd want to see it. A tribute act, performing Prince stuff, or as an original artist with the Revolution backing him? As a one-off tribute or memorial perhaps but I just don't see it as anything other than that. The Orger Formerly Known As Raspberry

I'm with it. Just saw the video clip and was FLOORED. Minnie Riperton's Daughter Maya Rudolph was also a revelation with her background vocals.

I think there are enough people doing their own renditions of songs, I would prefere to see/hear people from within the Purple camp lead songs, I think it would be really touching to hear Morris Day lead a song, Jill JOnes lead a song, Sheila E, Susannah etc

Hmm, that's a good idea as well

Personally, I'd like to see Andre Cymone do it.

YES! Many associated like Jill Jones, Wendy and Susannah Melvoin, Paul Peterson, Andre Cymone, Dez Dickerson have been under acknowledged for contributing to Prince's music and the artists Prince produced like associated acts. Having these people front The Revolution for a few shows or a tour would be a better idea so they can get the respect and recognition they deserve they didn't get while Prince was alive. Also, Dangelo has his own career and not trying to be funny-he should focus on getting out of Prince's shadow rather than do "Dangelo And The Revolution". Prince has his legacy. I want to see D continue to build his. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Y'know, this is exactly why I don't care about a Revolution reunion at all. Because no one can take his place.

NorthC said: Y'know, this is exactly why I don't care about a Revolution reunion at all. Because no one can take his place. Understand and appreciate that entirely, but that's one thing I like about a Revolution reunion - nobody is trying to take his place, it's about celebrating him and his music. A Revolution reunion with somebody trying to replace Prince would just be like an above average tribute band. And that, I don't think we need. When the regrouped for Bobby Z in 2012 it did not have that feel at all that somone was 'taking' his place.

Exactly how I feel. I totally get that it works for some people here, and that's great, but the idea of the Revolution without Prince, regardless of who fronts it, just seems wrong.
Also, I just feel we're getting into tribute band territory here.

I love D'Angelo. Last nights performance was heartbreaking, it showed his reverence, nuance, love, and his insecurity - I dont think D could pull it off for a whole show. [Edited 4/27/16 14:08pm] [Edited 4/27/16 14:09pm]
