The Last Atlanta Concert should be released theatrically.

I haven't seen the last Atlanta show.

But I'd certainly go see it.

If "This is It" came out theatrically I'd think this should be also?

??

If anything comes up, my speculation is it will be that Altanta show in audio, Prince already mentioned it would be the next CD, so this is a pretty easy one for the estate to start with once the dust settles, which, could be years.

I'd much rather see a concert from a few years ago when he was able to perform on stage. While the music might have been good on Piano & a Microphone, I don't think a theatrical release would be visually entertaining enough when it's just 1-2 hours of him sitting at a piano.

Did they record it? I know almost all shows have been recorded but this show was a bit different, with just him and a piano and a stool on stage.

Did anyone see any cameras like at the show at Paisley Park?

Not soundboard. Some fan just recorded and uploaded it.

I didn't see any cameras, which means there was maybe one camera at the soundboard or something. Not enough camera angles and such for a real concert film.

I think it should be both January 21 Paisley shows. He was healthier and very open. That would be a better way to remember him.

Well, he said it was mixed and ready for release a few days before he died. Not sure whether it would have been a Tidal release, or even go out as HitNRun Phase Three.

However, to get morbid... the release could be shelved by his unfortunate shouts of 'I Don't Need No Doctor' during the Purple Rain tracks. We, the hardcore, know what he meant, but it would seem awful to everyone else and still a little bit unfortunate to us.

It's minor, but I don't think anyone would dare remove it. And as such, it could scupper the whole release.

Makes sense. Good observation.

Yeah they probably won't release it anytime soon. They probably would probably release a Revolution album or something that would generate more sales.

.

I doubt we will ever get to hear it in soundboard, but glad that the fairly high quality audience recording is out there..

.

If Prince released it, he probably would have edited it and changed some things anyway, so maybe not a great loss. Although of course I wish he was still here to do that.

I didn't see any cameras at the show - but I wasn't at the greatest vantage point in the theatre to notice if there were any cameras. There may have been a few strategically hidden - but probably not any quality worthy of a cinema.

While he didn't move around nearly as much as he did during previous tours, the show wasn't devoid of movement. He did quite a bit of footstomping (with light-up heels), and there were several moments were he ran around the stage and did laps around the piano. Similarly, I witnessed him leave the theatre - and he moved faster

He never picked up his cane beside the piano until the final time he left the stage.

I hope the live album gets released. The show sounded great, and the concert was one of the most inspiring moments in my life. If I remember correctly, though, Dr. Funkenberry recalled that even though Prince was talking about a live album release, he seemed to make sarcastic remarks regarding the gain of the audience mics in comparison to the music on the soundboard recording at the last Paisley Park event.

I've heard the bootleg, and while it's good for the time being - a proper release would do it more justice. The audio is just too muffled. The piano and Prince's voice were shockingly loud in the theatre. I had never heard a piano and one guy on a microphone amplified THAT much.

And for those unaware, Prince's performance of Black Sweat at the final Atlanta show is availble to download on Tidal. In my opinon, Black Sweat is one of the less noteworthy songs from the concert. He played it really early on in the show, and it doesn't really showcase all of his abilities on the piano. The audience is really loud in the mix - and it sounds like a less-rhythmically inclined person smuggled a tamborine into the show.

That being said - I would love for ANY Prince concert to be released theatrically. I'd love to take all my friends and marvel at how astounding his concerts were.

Mods: this is just to ask a question, not to post a link to this concert, per se. The website claims that Paisley Park released the full show. But it sounds like the bootleg to me. Who can shed light on this? Official release by PP, or hoax?

Sounds identical to the bootleg I have - and the quality isn't anything like the Black Sweat Tidal release.

Interesting note about the Black Sweat release on Tidal:
The beginning sounds a little bit like a bootleg. Perhaps maybe we're hearing the audience mics only - but as soon as Prince's vocals kick in, his piano and vocal microphone are properly brought in to the mix.
