George Michael appears to be one of the few of his contemporaries who hasn't made a statement ...

Hope he is ok.
Lovely tribute on Kate Bush's website.

So what?

I really don't understand this notion that everyone is obligated to opine on someone's passing.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Well, I hope he is ok too but why do people feel the need for others to speak out? I always found it odd when someone died and there was always people here being upset that Prince hadn't said anything or done anything.

RIP sad

Exactly. Chill.

I sincerely hope there will be millions of musicians around the world who won't make a public statement.

I guess you could also wonder why Jay Leno hasn't come out with anything either. Different strokes for different folks, as P said himself..

I've always been a massive George Michael fan and I know he was a big Prince fan.

.

I too did wonder if he was ok and if he was going to make a public statement, but we have to respect how others deal with grief. After all, George will be thinking that he doesn't want to take attension away from Prince.

.

I love the story of when Prince rang George about his own record company issues. Prince also wanted George to join the 'slave' cause. In George' s down-to-earth manner, I think he told Prince to 'naff-off'!

.

I love that story! I think only super rich megastars can shut down other super rich megastars!.

.

George once told a story of how he had to chastise Madonna for being rude to someone! I'm glad we have George to defent us mere mortals.

.

wink

George IS a big Prince fan. He said it himself that for instance, IWYS is basically him trying to emulate Prince, particularly vocally.

Anyway, we can't really judge everyone who doesn't say anything (yet). Justin Timberlake issued a sentimental statement, but it doesn't really say anything given how unclassy and butthurt he was dealing with Prince's jokes about "Sexy Never Left." We all know that FSLS is basically an audition tape for Prince, though.

Exactly. Not every single person has to say something. "Why hasn't _________ said something?!" is the new "the sky is falling!".

I'm not sure if it's been said here or not but I don't think George is obligated to say anything.
I don't recall Prince EVER saying anything when other celebrities died with the exception of Vanity. David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Rick James, Teena Marie all died with out Prince issuing any Statement .

Some celebrities always seem to be tweeting when people have died, like they feel they have to do it to make their "brand" look good. It's really not interesting to me when they do this...I'm far more interested in the comments from Prince's musicians and associates, people who worked with him for years and were genuinly close to him. So many of them have posted comments for fans, which I think is lovely and shows what decent people they are.

He did post something about David Bowie. Not sure if I saw it on Twitter or Instagram. You know how he was also the king of post and delete? But yeah, he definitely posted a salute to Bowie
