The surprise factor...

Maybe this was Prince's plan all along. That he would hold back, so that people would be surprised by all the music suddenly flowing like a sudden never ending river. The wow factor when it comes to how much he has released, becomes even greater when he has kept most of his stuff almost unavailable for those who are not die hard fans/fams or enthusiasts. He probably knew that people would leak his music as fast as possible, and acted accordingly. So for those who thought he had no clue when it comes to his legacy... there couldn't be a better way of giving, in a period of grief. People will grab anything in such a time in the most egoistical ways, and he knew. He even said in an interview that even if he never himself releases any of his own music, someone will...

What's your opinion on this?

Sorry, but what do you mean when 'acted accordingly' ?

It's becomming apparent he made no plans post-death (unless some sort of legal document surfaces soon). I do think he just didn't find the right avenues to release his music as he always wanted to.

"acted accordingly" as in "prevented his music and videos from being in the internet" ?

I don´t know . First of all, I see no flood of music and videos (not that I really care at this moment, I´m too sad to really care about stuff like that right now).

I mean, what´s on the net right now is stuff that most of us already had, and most of it was already on the net before it was deleted by his team.

If by holding back you mean everything that he´s managed to record and hide since 1996 then I have to disagree because, like I said above, most of what´s out there has been floating for a long time now despite the cease and desist letters.

And the few outtakes and rehearsals that leaked recently were already leaked before he died, and were quite old and had less to do with him and more to do with certain individuals in the elite trading circles accidentally leaking stuff (or willigly, depending on the material).

-

But as far as the surprise factor goes....I am amazed that Prince is still causing controversy and has maintained his aura of mystique and magic and symbolism even after he died. And that the whole world is expressing so much love and admiration.

-

I doubt that this would have been the same in, say, 2002 or 1997.

It seems so sudden to us but when you look at it, he died at the top of his game, king of the hill, after a great last concert, raving reviews in Australia and the USA, all the respect he could possibly achieve, with practically no old grudges or beef or ill will from anyone, even was mellow with Jill Jones, the Revolution,The Time, etc. etc. ,and invited to the White House and performed there.

No major scandals or gossip, perfectly clean image.

It´s incredible, even in death.

He went out like a true Prince, and left the world with a feeling of utter shock and love.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

All the videos reappearing is alot more than enough for people to digest. It's actually so much, it's overwhelming. If you just write Prince plus a random bootleg track, it's a good chance you'll find it there now. Just the collectors have seen or heard these before. I was talking mainly about people with not much knowledge of Prince. It has for a while been very difficult to find even his most known songs. You'll have to go to Tidal or buy it on iTunes. And alot of his albums aren't even available for downloading. But there's so much on youtube now. It is quite the surprise for many. And alot of people that has been overlooking him in the past, now get the chance to know why he was praised by so many.

My original post was not meant in a disrespectful way at all. I don't really think he was planning to go away now. I just think it's possible he thought that it's better if he has as much control as possible when alive, and that when the day comes where he is no longer with us, atleast one of the positive bi effects would be the amount of attention his music gets.

Ok, fair enough. You do have a valid point there.

And I didn´t think your post was disrespectful at all, on the contrary.

I agree with you as far as access to his music and videos goes. He was still immensely popular when he was alive last week but I´ll always wonder if he could have been even more popular if he had just allowed folks to post his music and concert footage on the internet.

I am shccked and suprised to see that so many young people had no idea who he was, or what songs he wrote, or how great he was.

But I am also pleasantly surprised to see how much they like him.

I wish they had realized this while he was still alive though.

Agree. I literally cried when I read abut him dying. I was crushed, almost like if I lost a family member. Of course, it's way different though. He isn't a person I was used to having near physically, and talk to. But he was and still is such an important influence in life both when it comes to music and love. His way of spreading love through music was something else. Even songs I didn't really like that much before, is getting better now when I hear them in a different way. It has something to do with his presence.

Oh, I perfectly understand. I felt the same way as you, and I still do. Completely crushed. Feels like losing a friend.
