Really regretting selling my CD collection...

Went through to see what I had left today. Gold Experience and Crystal Ball. I sold everything else. sad I even had the ONA voice and piano. I ended up selling that for like $80. I had the Live box set, found the box today, no discs. I saw that was going for like $170 on eBay. Hopefully everything will get back down to reasonable prices. I have everything in digital format for the time being. Anyone else sell their collection and having serious regrets about now?

A few months ago I almost got rid of my VHS crates collection. This past weekend I re-connected my old VCR back up and have been watching them. Glad I didn't do it.

Dragged mine out of storage yesterday. Still got both Madhouse 8 and 16 on CD and two copies of Exodus... Better than nothing I suppose

I regret parting with my vinyl years ago when CDs took over.

I regret loaning out some stuff and losing track of it. Also, cdr boots are sometimes not playable after 15 years!

I had arguably one of the biggest collections but I sold the majority of it in 2005/2006 when I had twins.

I didn't need the money but my priorities changed. I realised my love was the music, plain and simple. I didn't need to 'collect' anything, other than the music and the memories. I made about £25,000, but put it aside for the twins.

I didn't let it all go though. I kept a few sentimental items. SOTT gold disc award, Kiss Jacket, Purple Rain purple Vinyl, a pick, a few signed items and weird little things like Glam Slam matches. I kept all the offical CD's. I still have quite a bit of old vinyl in storage so I'll sell that at a later point.

I don't regret selling it. It was liberating really. I still have every note of music, and all the wonderful memories of all the gigs.

When I started seeing the inflated prices and "out of stock" notices, I thanked my lucky stars that I bought the majority of my Prince albums/tapes/cd's/laserdiscs when they were released.

I sold most of mine years ago and have no regrets. The music is what matters and I have all that on my computer. I never wanted to try to hold the physical items until Prince passed away because I hoped I would never be alive to see that day.

.

I did save a couple off my favorite 12" single and a couple of tourbooks, but I think that's it.

.

A lot of it is that I'm older now and have too much stuff and just not an OCD collector like I used to be. That was great and I enjoyed it, but it's just better to lighten my load of physical items at this point if I can.

I was seriously in the moment of looking at selling some of the stuff I have, when I heard the bad news on Fox.

I hear you! I would never sell anything of mine either. In fact, I couldn't care less about all the digital stuff. I'd rather have the tangible things and a great stereo to play them on.

I was in the process of selling ALL my Prince stuff. I sold a Lovesexy tourbook, 2 boots on eBay I didn't really want (maybe I should have kept Septembre since it was the last revolution show, but the sound was neevr good)... But I ended up rediscovering my love of Prince and started buying instead of selling! I actually bought 2 Prince 45s from Japan on April 19th and am still waiting for them to arrive.

What I really regret is not buying 2 or 3 of evrything related to Prince years ago

I've NEVER sold any of my collection. I have freely given away a few items to people that I felt needed them more than I did at the time, with only one regret...now. When I graduated Cosmetology school in 1994, our final exam was to put together a 'Hair Show'. Me being me, I had my models come out to "Beautiful" from Prince's "The Beautiful Experience" Maxi Single and turned the show out! Yes, we did!

I was just going through my collection a couple of hours ago, looking for that cd, when it hit me that MY 'Beautiful Experience' is really gone. disbelief cry

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

'The Beautiful Experience' Maxi Single and the 'The eye Hate U Experience' Maxi Single are seriously my most prized Prince music releases. They never leave the case so I totally understand ur pain.

I sold my whole vinyl collection with some of his 12" and boots, but kept all the CDs. But I regret not buying more, then his stuff didn´t sell at all on the bay. Even ´The Rainbow Children´ CD was dirt cheap lately. Now 3121 goes about 35$ eek A few weeks ago it was 3-5$ with no bid.

I sold my copy of Rave In2 and the NPG's GoldNigga w/ Guess Who's Knocking on it. I do regret selling them, but I'm not sure why. I still have the music digitally.

I sold all my CD bootlegs (about 300) a couple of years ago, no regrets! I still have most of them digitally. I have all the officially released CDs (albums+singles) and a bunch of stuff on vinyl and will probably never sell those. My only regret is not buying all vinyl releases in the 90s/00s confused

Actually, The £25,000 didn't all come selling my Prince collection, about £5k came from me selling off my old childhood toys (I had some rare Star Wars toys and I always kept them boxed....OCD issues wink).

But the £20K of Prince stuff was from acutally from a fairly small part of the collection. Some Platinum and Gold discs, acatates, Parade tamborines and rare promo's, old concert posters. Other things like Picture discs, Strange Tales, Syndicate, Undertaker album, Goldnigga, 1978 Press Kit, Gett Off Birthday copy, CD's of The War, 51 Hours, MPLS, ONA, NPG singles etc. I had several copies of some, and was getting a few hundred for each of them.

There were a few items that surpised me how much they went for. The Crystal Ball 5 disc puck. I had 5 spare (bought them at a London Record Fair for £5 each to give to friends but never got round to it.) and I think a got well over £100 each for them. Even The Vault Book (signed by Per) went for £400. A good fan on here bought).

I don't regret it all all. It freed up a room in my house and freed my mind of consumerism. Also, there was little I didn't have, so the fun had gone out of collecting. In essence, I completed the sticker book.

I went back to basics and just play all the music. I still have every note of music. That said, my gold disc of Sign O The Times takes pride of place on the wall over my Computer NAS where my 120Gb of purple sounds sit and next to my Prince CD rack. Prince now occupies a quiet corner of my study....and he always will.

I got rid of an original GoldNigga CD - quite simply, I didn't care for the music.

I'm sorry to hear about your regrets! I can imagine how you're feeling.
