Whilst most of us are still grieving (understandably), what do we think will be the next chapter?...

Given the latest reports are stating there is no will, what do ya'll think will happen next? Will we continue to hear unreleased studio and live documents of his illustrious career - if so, what/how should this be released? Or will all elements of the vault be destroyed or continue to remain unheard as some reports are suggesting cry .

Well, I've just started wondering who the fools were that were there that morning. And if the vault was locked...if you know what I mean...

I personally would like to see a soundboard live account(or multiple) for each album/year release. And for the 1987/SOTT era I would specifically select Le New Morning. What an amazing aftershow. I would also pick the Camden aftershow for 1988/lovesexy period. But my god, where does one start......

Where do you start, indeed...

It's tough, because I feel like chronological would make sense, but I don't want to wait years for the periods I'm most interested in. Maybe one huge box set with a lot of the stuff, organized by period. And then subsequent random releases.

To be honest, that's what I've always imagined. But right now, it seems like I've got all I need, for some reason. The thought of getting "new" Prince music with him not in this world at the age of 57 hurts like hell. If he were even 67...it wouldn't bother me.

Strive

The immediate future should be pretty easy. Release the Atlanta shows through Tidal and prepare whatever Free Urself was as the first posthumous studio release.

After that, it becomes much hazier. Do you treat Prince like Jimi Hendrix? Sign a deal with some corporation, compile your own new albums/boxsets out of unreleased material, release live albums and get a live tour going with people he's worked with in the past. Elvis? Where you turn his home into a tourist trap? Beatles? Where you treat a new release like a tentpole event and live off the licensing?

It's going to be interesting to see what direction his family moves in.

The Jimi Hendrix approach would probably be best as long as they can keep Prince's vision in mind. Combining multiple takes into "new" songs would be tragic. Same with hording the most interesting parts of the vault (I still can't believe that Janie Hendrix is sitting on the Black Gold tapes while scraping the bottom of the barrel for other recent releases)

Completely agree.

Control of the material and lyrical content also concerns me. If his earlier music gets into the hands of a religious zealot who is unwilling to recognise the time frame in which a song was born then this will likely never see the light of day. e.g. unedited extraloveable, studio electric intercourse just to name 2. This would be a real shame

And Manci - yes chronological order is imperative, however i would like to see someone revisit CBII and make that the first posthumous release. I'm not sure whether Prince finalised a tracklist - but we do know some the tracks in which fans had an opportunity to vote for.
