Unprecedented Four Year Gap between 20Ten - AOA Perhaps there was a health crisis during this period?

He was still making and releasing music online. Plectrumelectrum was ready a long time before it was released. He toured extensively in 2011 and 2013 in particular.

I have pondered that but he was performing fairly frequently with 3rdeyegirl through that period. I'd have thought that if there was a health problem playing live shows would be more of a strain than recording something and releasing an album. RIP

He was touring a lot and releasing music during that time, though. It's just that a full album wasn't released as a package.
I saw him at Hop Farm 2011 and he was as energetic as ever at that show. And I saw him 4 times in 2013 and 2014 before AOA came out.
He did something like 60 shows in 2011 and 40 shows in 2013. |

I was fortunate to catch him with 3RDEYEGIRL at Montreux 3rd night in 2012. He seemed intense and avoiding the official camera that was filming. He repeatedly called for house lights off (of him). Still - "just touring" four years seems normal for anybody. It is odd for Prince to not turn out an album in four years. I hope for the best. I hate to think he was suffering or struggling.
