Honestly, did you think that Prince would recieve the amount of praise that he is recieving at present or did you thnk his death would be glossedover, short media soundbite and thats it

I didn't think there would be this much coverage and it's global. Much much more than I thought there would be..and he deserves every moment of it. Baby, you're a star.
Meet me in another world, space and joy

I had absolutely no doubt, because his music, style, and creativity were so unique, the world knows they have lost an absolute treasure. When you try to wrap your mind around who's the next Prince-type, NO ONE come to mind. NO ONE.

As a person? I think he was a little cold...but in his shoes you need to be.... "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

i honestly didn't think his death would get this much attention. i'm glad it is.....i've noticed that the teenagers in my area are listening to his music now. be kind, be a friend, not a bully.

I was 5 when Elvis passed but what I know and what I've read, this has been on that level of celebration of an artist and universal mourning. He seems to have inspired every musician out there, from country, to pop to R and B. And Prince had us, his army, but he also had so many casual fans who liked at least one of his songs or his albums and to so many of them, this is the end of something. Their youth, the 80s, when you have someone as diverse as Prince you have someone who meant 1000 different things to a 1000 different people. I never expected this but like everybody else, I think we would trade the adoration for even one more day of Prince on this planet. All good things they say never last...

I am not surprised at all about the coverage. He along with MJ and Madonna defined an era.

I didn't think Prince passing would take over the media like it did. I thought it would be a soundbit and then a few specials on BET, MTV etc. But he got a whole epsode of SNL, Dateline, 20/20 those are just the ones that I saw. I know there were some I didn't see. So I am pleased that world recognized the genus. I thought it would just be us on the org. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed
Thank You Prince | |

No, I didn't. I didn't think the world would react to it like they did Michaels, but this seems like it's overshadowing that and rightly so. Even Brietbart, Fox, the Drudge Report, EVERYTHING and EVERYONE was talking about it and giving him PRAISE. Almost every great monument turned purple, he's running non-stop on the music entertainment channels, NASA gave him a nebula, this is so huge. All of this is and lets hope he's releasing Vault albums and music videos for years/decades to come. [Edited 4/25/16 10:01am]

As a Prince fan I'm glad to see it, it warms my heart. But unfortunately, it's only a matter of time before the vultures come out trying to sell stories of sex, scandal and whatever. "I know I hold you too tight, but I just can't seem to get close enough."

Of course. Prince hasn't been in the charts for ages, but he was always the center of attention when he made a TV appearance, stealing the show with only a few words or a smirk. People knew he was cool.

So true. People knew what he stood for and had respect even if they didn't listen to his music. As equality grows, violence declines.

It is overwhelming. The amount of love and tributes and coverage that are pouring out...it's amazing, but we shouldn't be surprised by it, really.
He is Prince Rogers Nelson, after all.
But still, it blows me away. All the buildings turning purple....the bells playing his music at the city hall....all the live covers....even NASA acknowledged him...
He deserves every bit of it. ALL OF IT. I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

I thought that Prince had utterly trashed his image by the time AOA came out. Music diehards still loved him, but he was more of a public curiosity than a musical genius.
Wow, I was wrong. The days-long outpouring has been heartwarming.

Yes...I always knew his fans loved him. I did my heart good to see the world lit up in purple for him. His fans said goodbye to him in their own way

I've always thought Prince was a second Beethoven. A classic artist who in hundreds of years will not be forgotten. In Utrecht in NL , De Dom (City Cathedral) played its bell chimes in Purple Rain. What an honour. Hope the link works from outside the country...Scroll down in the link to hit play

I confess I never thought he'd pass in my lifetime. I thought he'd be rocking at 90.
I am not surprised by all the love though. He was a genius and touched the lives of so many people in one way or another.

well, being on here for the years that i have been i have witnessed the chorus of "no way he is a first ballot inductee to the hall of fame " to more recently, "he has ruined his legacy""etc etc etc ...
I never beleived that but there were quite a few here who strongly did

Had he died at 90 years old, I'd expect just a blurb about it.

Prince was always a proper-follow-up-to-Purple Rain release away from being the biggest artist on the planet so in that respect no, it doesn't surprise me. But it really does totally surprise me. Like I said this is Michael Jackson sized appreciation.

When David Bowie passed a few weeks ago (!!!) I did wonder whether Prince would get the same kind of reaction. I didn't think he would. And then, sadly, I found out I was wrong. I have been listening to Prince non-stop since Thursday. His music makes me happy, and I need happy. But the tributes, those are getting to me everytime.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT IN MY MIND!!! Way too much talent. He opened eyes regarding the music industry and to a chance with No Name. A hit movie as well. Way too much. "I don't make the rules. I just play"
