Nancy Grace on the 'Save' Shot My wife and I just happened to catch Nancy Grace tonight and she had some interesting things to say about Prince and the now infamous plane landing incident and the save shot. Apparently her producers and researchers have spoken to members of the medical staff that were there and none of them gave any inclination that there was a save shot. She was pretty adamant about it as if she had the whole story from a very reliable source. She said she's not jumping to that conclusion because they can't find anyone to say a save shot was given to Prince and was adamant about people waiting for the autopsy results before calling Prince a drug addict or saying he overdosed. Interesting info I just wanted to share with the fam. RIP Prince.

I know its administered as a precautionary measure just in case. Not necessarily omly to known OD's. Because sometimes people don't know what was ingested prior.

Nancy Grace is a big-time Prince fan. She said something the other day, iirc, about not wanting to believe the pills rumour, just because it contrasted with his reputation.

Yeah, still it's interesting that no one her staff spoke to will confirm that they gave him a shot as a precaution at all. That's kinda strange to me.

You can tell she's really really going hard on these OD rumors.

It doesn't mean anything if he had a save shot or not since they often do that as standard procedure. Only the autopsy results will bring closure on this one. Nobody I know gun' bite

Isn't it against medical ethics to reveal that sort of information? You usually can only get a person's condition (critical, stable, etc) when you call. That's not to say some medical staff might be swayed by a TV producer from CNN or TMZ, or just for the bragging rights that they treated Prince. I just don't think Nancy can say for sure that's what did or didn't happen.

Then how does TMZ keep getting all its info? It blows my mind how they are right on top of every situation.

It's a violation of HIPAA laws but these people are talking off the record to various sources.

I said in another thread that Harvey Levin is busting at the seems about his stories and sources on this, it almost seems like he wants exculsive rights to all the attention that will come if he's proven right. I don't watch Nancy that much because I can't stand all the bombast but hey that's her show, I doubt that if either still wants their legal and journalistic reputations to stay intact they would just be shooting off the lip for ratings. everyone is talking about the autopsy - but do you think we will ever hear the truth? I'm sure "they" will mask the truth and tell us (fans & world) what they want to tell us...we'll most likely never hear the truth....

You can tell she's really really going hard on these OD rumors. When I told my sister Prince died, she immediately asked if it was drug-related; I said no since I didn't even think Prince-- being a vegetarian-- would be addicted to drugs of any kind-- prescription or otherwise. If anything, I assumed he dropped dead from exhaustion or cardiac arrest. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

This sounds like complete and utter BS, unfortunately. . Here's the bottom line about TMZ, whatever you think about their purpose/morals/whatever: . - this was THEIR story . - they're rarely, if ever, wrong . - their story is completely in line with what we know about the incident, both factually and just common-sensically . - Prince's plane made an emergency landing when he was less than an hour from home. This is a serious business. They weren't landing for an aspirin. And given Prince's reluctance for medical help, there's every chance he wasn't 'involved' in this decision. Figure it out. . I'm afraid you should all be going 100% with TMZ and not Nancy Grace on this one. Do her 'producers' have a track record for groundbreaking info? Her argument essentially means the plane landing was a hysterical over-reaction. This just isn't worthy of consideration, is it?

Valid points for certain but tell me what do you think of the 911 call from the airport that made no mention of overdose? Being an EMT in NY for 5 years I can tell you that info would not have been withheld on a 911 call at all. When a call comes in as 'unresponsive male or female' that means no one knows why they are unconscious. It would seem to be counterproductive for Prince's staff or security to not say that Prince took a medication or a drug that caused him to lose consciousness. You don't land a plane with a medical emergency without the pilot of the plane knowing all he can to prepare emergency services personnel on the ground. There is more going on here than we know right now.

Youre presuming his staff would know what he was taking. If indeed he was on meds for pain I can easily picture Prince taking any medication in private and away from view of anyone, even his close friends. It may be that no one on that plane saw him take anything and he simply lost consciousness for reasons unknown to them. Once on the ground the medical staff would provide a save shot as a precaution anyway even without any knowledge of what he may or may not have taken. Once he came around and was with the medical staff he would have told them what he had taken, probably had to tell them.

Well, from what I gather the audio released isn't everything. I didn't listen, but I read the article that went with it which suggested things had been said earlier. But even so... . ...I think I'd go with the fact that the pilot didn't know! Maybe Prince's on-board entourage didn't know either. That doesn't stop the EMT crew making a call when they see the passenger (I'm sure they have particular checks, but I bow to your superior knowledge). And, to be frank, with a mega-star passenger passed out on a private plane, they would be foolish not to have an overdose in mind as a possibility when they first saw him, whatever they were told. . So I don't think the lack of that being said means he didn't OD, or that they didn't treat him like an OD there and then. As for the specifics (Percocet), they probably got that from Prince himself. Sure, he could have OD'd on street drugs and lied to them, but other TMZ evidence suggests he was on prescribed medication just like he (probably) said. . He passed out (blanket term) on a plane with friends around him, and was 'saved' with the hour. A week later he passed out at home with no one around him and died. And whether or not that turns out to be another OD, we know medication, very recently acquired, was involved. . I just see the TMZ revelations as being completely consistent with everything else we know. There's nothing to suggest they are wrong. And hey, none of it has even been too imflammatory. For whatever reason, Prince was in bad shape and on serious, but legal, meds. He kept working through it (even doing two shows on one night) and tragically died. If there is anything more sinister than that, they haven't said it (so far). [Edited 4/26/16 1:20am]

It's all very strange and very Prince in a way but we have to wait it out. Hopefully we get the whole truth.

Yeah TMZ was started and run.by a lawyer and longtime entertainment insider who knows the ins and outs. Who have people eager to gossip to them. I don't think they post stuff lightly with so much knowledge of the ramifications.
