Can U Hear Him? Maybe I'm alone in this, but for the longest time now (years, I swear) I have struggled to "hear" Prince. I've listened to his music so much, religiously from 1983 to present, that whenever I listen to certain albums (1980-1988) I feel like I'm missing something. I can't "hear" him, I hear my inner monologue singing the songs. Does that make sense? I would get so frustrated because I'd throw on anyone else's music and hear it so clearly, but not Prince. Well...since this past Thursday, my inner monologue has suddenly been silenced, and I am hearing the man like I havent heard him in years. It is a treat! Just thought I'd share... Make it so, Number One...

Maybe as we've listened to the songs so many times, our brains switch to autopilot when they're on. Like when you drive a new route, you're hyper aware of the road and where you turn off but the trip home from the place you've worked for years goes by without you being aware of it. But now, someone has come along and painted all the buildings in bright colours so your brain doesn't sign out to the road. You just see new beauty in something so familiar.
Kinda like that? If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

I am inclined to agree. I listened to all of Come today; it felt like I was hearing it for the first time.

Yes, you become accustomed to something after a while and no longer hear it for what it is... but if you put it away for a while, or in the case of a major event (especially a tragic one like this), it allowes you to come back to it with a new perspective...

This is so weird because everything I listen to sounds so much more plaintive and passionate! sniff..
