Anyone have this in their possession? What are your thoughts on it? I know it was damn near impossible to find, even years ago.

I have a copy in storage. Near mint. Never read. Uptown Magazine closed around the same time, so it got lost in the shuffle. It's their crowning achievement. I imagine the plan was to offer up later volumes every few years or so. But that obviously never happened.

Copies are rare; and were quite expensive for the time. I'm sure plenty of orgers have a copy though.

Still have my copy. Very insightful guide that's very well put together. Would've definitely purchased updated versions if they kept it going. It's really worth it.

Although it's not up to date, obviously, it's still a goldmine of info and documentation. The Extremely lengthy Session info and Circulating Tapes sections are worth getting a copy of this alone. When I share my studio outtakes with friends, I always include a pdf of the Circulating Tapes portion of the book - although some things have leaked out since this book, it's still a great guide and covers 90% of what's out there.

It was £35 when it was first published.

I do hope something in the same vain eventually gets published, spanning his entire career.

I've got it. But, now that I remember, I got it under dubious circumstances. I ordered every available copy of Uptown and a new subscription as part of a deal for around £90, I think. Nothing arrived. They claimed they sent again, still nothing arrived. I've never had any other post go missing in my life.

.

They 'proved' they posted it, now indicating it was just the once, with their 'paperwork'. This included a despatch date next to issues of Uptown that a) they had never published and b) never would.

.

By the time I realised they'd just stalled and stalled, and also stopped publishing, I just had to accept the loss. Then they sent me 'The Vault', partially for free (my intitial outlay also included unpublished issues).

.

Utterly disgraceful. But yeah, I still have the book. And it's excellent.

Heard about this book and I would love a copy, hopefully someone will reprint it and bring it right up to date. Now he hasleft us, we can expect a 3rd edition of Thorne and hopefully some career introspective volumes and even what Prince had done of his own memoirs.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

It's still a useful reference point though I now use PV now almost exclusively. I got a copy on eBay at first then bought a copy direct from Per. Nice guy, great book, be great if it were updated one day but I doubt that'll happen.

For 1958-2004, no other book is The Vault's equal.

Here's the page that sold the book back then. Tells you exactly what you're getting, in detail.

Excellent resource and a mammoth effort went into the research. Mine is on my shelf with my other Prince books. Real shame the Uptown guys stopped (understandably)
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

Bought the book when first published. They sent me two copies. I just put a copy on E-bay. That book is intense.
