How on earth do you start? The trust company will need to send someone in to catalogue the contents but unless that person has a pretty thorough knowledge of Prince's music, how are they going to begin?
Track: drums 1 Track: drums 2 ?????
I know we have no idea how it's currently arranged but how on earth can anyone assess what's in there? Assess the relative importance of each recording?
30 years of recordings... to be very conservative say a minimum of 10 hours a week, thats 2 solid years of listening, 24 hours a day. And the hours of recordings is likely to be higher, given that he recorded all live gigs, maybe rehearsals, multiple tracks for different instruments... its a librarian's nightmare!
[Edited 4/28/16 1:49am] In all honesty, to me, this whole idea of the bank cracking open the vault and having access to the vault is just disturbing to me. I don't think this is what Prince would've wanted. It just doesn't sit well with me. I rather them not break into the Vault at all, it's a breach of privacy - even though he's dead. It just needs to be some sort of respect there. Them forcefully drilling through a vault is just crazy to me man. What if Prince didn't want the Vault opened at all- under any circumstances? I'm sure it's a reason why he was the only one that knew the password. Maybe the vault wasn't EVER meant for public listening or viewing, maybe it was just his personal stash for personal memory and reference etc. it's just sad hearing about the bank drilling through the vault. Rest In Peace Prince, you'll be missed.

What does or doesn't sit well with you doesn't matter in the slightest, does it?
His loss was a terrible one for fans of his music, but did those of us who have followed his career expect this to go any differently? He spent so much of his career fighting to protect his rights over his music - wouldn't you think he'd make an effort to see those rights extend once he'd passed on? Perhaps if he weren't so poor a businessman, that would be the case, but as history has demonstrated repeatedly, this is what we're left with.
Time will tell how his legacy is handled.

Time will tell how his legacy is handled. This is what I can't get my head around. Why didn't he care enough to stipulate what would happen to his music after death. I'm still hoping there is a will or trust. None of it makes any sense. Baby, you're a star.
