I don't imagine, he intended for anyone to "finish" the vault songs. Just my opinion - I don't see him as that kind of artist. He was all about control. And I don't think for a second that he inteded for his "last words" to be subject to other people's interpretation, control or anything of the kind.

Just look at what those "producers" made out of Michael Jackson's unreleased material. Granted, Michael used his "vault" for unfinished material to be finished at a later date. But for some reason I don't think Prince did it that way.

Why are we even being led to believe that they were not finished

There are hundreds of tracks in there. I"m sure at all different levels of competion. I'm sure Prince started some tracks and then lost interest or went a different direction. So probably complete songs and just the barebones beginnings of others.

Oh God.... my concern with anyone 'producing' The Vault is that they will think they have to make it sound 'contemporary', so that it will sell and 'fit in' with today's radio etc...

Then it will sound like shit...

It better not be 'contemporized' crap like that embarrassing mess 'Xscape' that Timbaland et al put together for MJ... Jesus, in that lead single, they even buried MJ's voice too low in the mix beneath those new synths etc... it was godawful.... that must NOT be allowed to happen.

Nobody needs to 'produce' the Vault... I would imagine it just needs dusting down, organising and releasing...

Given how most of Prince's incomplete productions were, for the most part complete, this seems slightly unnecessary.

Asmuch as I love Jam & Lewis, their services not required. If they want to remix, sure! I'd love that! But to put out originals, no, no thank you.

As I understand it, a great deal from the vaults are multi-track unmixed/raw recordings.

So it needs to be mixed down, at least.

Maybe that's how Jimmy Jam would "produce" it.

i.e. not the traditional way of producing music (including changing it), but more like "collecting the pieces and make them accessible to people who don't own a mixing console / multi-track tape".

I would prefer Susan Rogers did it though

I'm probably in the minority, but I have no issue with 'modernising' some of the work, as long as the unaltertered versions are released in tandem, much like MJ's Xscape.

My 10 year old boys think AOA is Prince's best album, and that Xscape is MJ's They say it doesn't sould like old people music. The modern mixing is creating new fans. With that comes income, and with that comes the likelihood of more releases.

If I were looking for someone that could give modern sound, but also have connections with the importance of the legacy, then Jam and Lewis would be on a very short list.

Oh hell no!

Produce what? Any Hendrix will recall the releases that had enhanced guitar and drum tracks added from session musicians.

Remaster. Fix tape damage. Get liner notes from those that were there at the time and make sure there is someone in overall control who can be objective. If the estate allows it this could be a very long term project that hopefully will be done right.

As much as a respect Jam I'd prefer he not be involved

I think they should release some tracks and let us the fans produce it!!! Now that would be c-o-o-l

... Prince's music IS already produced.

No need to fuck it up the post Michael Jackson way.

Release things the way the were meant to be.

Unplished and untouched.

Like those several #takes from Beatles songs...

Don't.

Touch.

I think how JJ Abrams destroyed my 1 childhood N2 adulthood pleasure

then I said, well I still have Prince, and I just the right people who respect and know his vision will deliver the music to the world. I don't want my 2(and last) childhood N2 adulthood pleasure destroyed

Hmm, I don't know. We don't even know if his stuff from the Vault will even see the light of day! Let alone someone producing his unfinished tracks. It would be nice to hear his stuff, but then again, if someone gets their greedy hands on it and then remixes his songs to feature collabs featuring Justin Timberlake, Justin Beiber, Beyonce, Rhianna, The Weeknd, etc. then it would be as good as garbage.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
