NoPlayList

I've seen many comments about being unable to play specific songs and I am so feeling that.

I have not and can not listen to Sometimes It Snows... Even when I hear it in my head I break down, no way can I take the real thing.
Way Back Home would be too much for me to take.

I probably couldn't handle Purple Rain.

I just thought of The Ladder and started crying, again, just from hearing it in my head.

I'm sure there are many more. The thing is, I think I actually have to put the effort into identifying them and making a mental Do Not Play List, else they'll take me by surprise at times that are inconvenient to be emotional. Plus, everyone is being so sweet right now, but eventually everyone who's not one of "us" will lose patience for the middle aged man that can't stop crying over a pop star dying.

Since I listen to something by Prince pretty much every day, I'm going to have to be pre-aware of which songs might trigger uncontrollable grief, yet, identifying those songs in advance will be emotionally wrecking in itself, and I'm just too exhausted at this point.

I'm figuring I'm probably not alone in this. Hoping talking about it here is helpful to somebody going through the same thing.

All this said, his music is what has saved me the past few days (as it always does wink ). The vast majority of what I am listening to makes me feel so much better and has helped me realize that Prince will never die because the music is immortal and will be with me for the rest of my life.

heart

I saw PR at the theater today and many people were weeping during the song Purple Rain. The camera stays on Prince's face throughout almost the entire thing and the music and visuals were jsut too much.

I can relate to everything you said.

Even songs that never really did much for me are a danger now. Into the light came on shuffle while I was at the gym and I'm a 41 year old man and I'm on the elliptical and I start crying and then the fucking ladder comes on.

Don't go anywhere near the breakdown. It came up two days ago and I was like Robert Deniro in that clip. Just writing that sentence has set the tears rolling again.

I too wonder how long my wife will be patient. She's been fantastic.

If the Atlanta shows get an official release as per Prince' plan, how will ever listen to it. A case of you. The last ever song, Purple Rain.

The thing is, as much as I can't listen to his music right now, I can't NOT listen to it either. sad
