Paisley Park DVD Box Set

I think that releasing multiple DVD box sets is mandatory. The shows that come to mind are:

1. Xenophobia Celebration 2002 (6 Shows)

2. January 21 Piano & Microphone (2 Shows)

3. 1987 SOTT Warm Up Show

Others?

Do you just mean shows from PP?

I want all his videos. Even the ones that never made it out. I have the Hits DVD and always wanted more. And a color version of UTCM. I'd still watch the BW on cuz it's the perfect film noir, but I've seen color stills and it just looks like so much fun.

Call me Veruca.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Hmmm. It'd be nicer to have a series called The Live Experience or something like that. Find & produce the best recordings from most all the major tours (Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain, Hit N Run, SOTT, Lovesexy, Nude, Act I and II), even taking tracks from different cities if necessary, and issue them out. Not in a box set per se, although that'd be nice. I hesitate on that because the pricing is usually really high, and the pressings are limited. I'd rather go for $16.99 each time for a 2-disk set. Alan Leeds or maybe a band member (or all the band members) can write liner notes for it. Include the entire list of dates that the tour covered. Just cool detailed stuff like that.

.

As far as other recordings - The Celebration disks would be fun. The Hit N Run, and SOTT warm up shows would be excellent, although those will probably never come out.

I was just referring to some of the legendary Paisley performances. I also think that there should be a separate mega DVD Box set of at least one show from every tour that he had and a separate box set for his legendary aftershows.

They can take pre-orders because I'm not sure what I'm proposing is for the masses, but there will certainly be a high demand from those of us that love him most.

I think every Piano & Microphone show was special and that every recording and/or video of those shows should be released, especially the paisley shows.

None of those will likely ever happen. When and if vault material gets released, it will be released with the masses in mind, Prince fans, casual fans, and non Prince fans alike. This is how they will make the most money on any vault release. Getting too specific will not get them to all the markets they want. Perhaps in the distant future, the stuff us hardcore fans want will come out.

I hope that you are not right, but I appreciate your point. Most hardcore fans are approaching 50. I hope the distant future is within the next 10 years. Pre-orders for the obscure stuff would maximize profit. I really believe that a fan should be involved with the future releases.

I agree- if they go the pre-order route that would be efficient. I think there's enough of us hardcore fans to make it worth it and I think we may get even see somewhat of a surge of new hardcore fams. They could also release some stuff for mass consumption and maybe have a website (one that actually sticks around) ... I really loved the one with Paisley Park, with the reflection room and stuff. Can't remember what it was called though. I thought he was supposed to be putting up a site with videos and stuff. He had such big dreams for the interactive experience, I hope someone runs with that. I don't even care if it's Warners. He can't get paid for the art anymore so I don't really care where the money goes. Maybe if Warners sets up some sort of charity to help public school music / art programs or something based on Vault profits, I'd feel good about it.
Surprise, surprise.

I would love all of those, and would throw out the summer of 1995 shows as well for consideration. The band was amazing, and there was a different set list almost every show. To the extent the same songs were played, the versions were often different - for example, Days of Wild was almost always a different tempo, solo melody, etc.

I think the first set to be released should be the Atlanta show that he did just before he passed. I really want to hear a clean audio version of that show. It would be nice if it could be done.

Let's face it. Prince potentially has a bigger career ahead of him than he had before. The potential is beyond critical or commercial acclaim. I think for example I own Charade from Camden market in 92. Crap . People here know exactly what I mean.. At the moment I need to end everything with a kiss. Broken x

I have said it before, this will indeed be the first release. Why? It was already in the works, and, it was the last known thing Prince actually approved for release. On a more greedy note, whoever releases this stands to make a fortune, everyone will want to hear Prince's last show, even casual to non fans. Which is why I think we will see this happen this year. The psychology of it all doesn't sit well with me though, I would be happy to get this quickly, but at the same time it would be upsetting to me because I know they are just trying to capitalize on his passing as soon as possible. This is how business works under these circumstances unfortunately though sad

His estate would benefit from the release. The proceeds would help to produce future projects. Along with the exsisting financial resoures of the estate projects could be almost limitless.

I can't even imagine what tour rehearsals are in there, or if he used the soundstage to record with the band and video exists of the recording session.

PP and NPG Records are still allowed to operate right? When the CEO of a company dies the company doesnt have to stop trading does it? If Prince had already negotiated distribution and got the set ready for release, they could go ahead with it before any of the legal estate stuff is sorted out. So potentially there could be a new album that is ready for release and even possibly the Atlanta show. Whether there is anyone at PP actually working at the moment is another story though, but releasing something that was already in the works is not capitalising on Prince's death, it is fulfilling his wishes.
