Responding As A Fan Community There have been dance parties. There have been tribute lightings. There have been impromptu memorials. There have been cover songs. There will no doubt be tribute concerts & other events to honor the man & his legacy.
Those will be arranged by the famous & influential in the entertainment world, but what about us? Those of us who gather here almost daily despite our often dramatic differences of opinion, because of our appreciation for the man & his music. What might we do to show that appreciation & share it with the world?
I myself am no one. Just a boring, heterosexual white guy from the east coast. But I find myself profoundly disgusted by the discrimination against the LGBT community that continues even to this day. It makes me think of the Prince that I was first drawn to - the man who sang of a utopic vision - of Uptown, of Paisley Park, of a New Power Generation & how far we still have to go before we achieve that vision.
But I think there might be more people out there who feel the same way. And I wonder what we might do together. I am indeed a boring person, but I'm also a runner & a charitable one & I often take part in virtual races for charity, through sites like these:

What if we put something together, like a 19.99 mile race to benefit a LGBT (or other equally deserving) cause, with Prince as the inspiration? The entry fee (usually $25 or $26) is a donation, & participants all receive a medal & someone here in this community can design something amazing, I'm sure. While I doubt we'd be able to use the actual symbol as the medal for copyright reasons, maybe the glyph without the flourish, or maybe a purple guitar with a dove? Who knows?

I was thinking as we as a Prince Army could dedicate one day like his Birthday to help people in our own community....like feed the homeless in shelter, or have a coding workshop with kids, or have a cupcake party for Seniors in living facility. Just ideas. I wouldnt want to have this task alone cuz I live in LA. Maybe if we had Prince Army meetups in different cities and come up with a community charitable event in His honor.
What do yall think?
