Am I silly that my heart is bursting with happiness?? He's 22. I had the great fortune to bring him and his sister to Essence a few years back. Maybe in 2013. Prince was with 3rd Eye Girl. I bought all of us an Essence shirt. But Prince also had these cool artsy 3rd Eye Girl shirts. It was his full face with fro on the front. The 3 lens glasses. Symbol on bottom. Each side was colorful. Really cool. Like a colorful drawn poster on a shirt. Anyway. I bought one. Never wore it. Just picked it up. So today he's telling me he's going to Jazz Fest tomorrow. I think they are wanting to see J Cole. He asked if I had a Prince shirt he could wear. He couldn't find his. I was like OF COURSE!! But I had to dig. When I found the 3rd Eye Girl one, he was like "that is perfect". I'm like "son, that is so beautiful you want to represent him. And you have a shirt from YEARS ago from a night you attended in person!" Like I got teary eyed. He is driving to his friends house tonight. About 1 1/2 hours away. Then they'll head to New Orleans tomorrow. But he said he wanted Prince to listen to. I gave him Girl 6 CD. And a "when doves cry" "purple rain" CD. He left bumping Pink Cashmere. And my heart felt a bit of happy. I love that my son appreciates Prince. I love that my kids recognize what he's done musically and more. And just knowing my son wanted to wear a shirt from a concert of Prince from years ago to go to the New Orleans Jazz Fest just touches my soul. I know. I'm rambling. I'm being ridiculous. But I love that my kids are being supportive and I can see they feel the loss too. It's just a good feeling. Not the loss. That part still hurts like hell. But just knowing seeing first hand how MY loved ones are honoring him. It just feels right. I feel like I raised them right!! 😊. Okay. I'm done. Just needed to share. I know you guys here can relate to what I'm saying. Just had to share.
