It was 1986, and I had been living in an abusive relationship since I was 4 years old. One day I was at a friend's house and she had the 12 inch vinyl of Kiss. I got so obsessed with the it, she said that I could take it. During the next few years I got to know all of Prince's music. I would spend hours listening to it. It became my escapism, giving me the strength to deal with familial problems, and it also helped with my sexual pubescency. I doubt that if It were not for his music, I would have had no real need to exist at that time.
