I couldn't watch that film right now. It'll be a while before I can enjoy stuff like that again.

Just the weekend. I need to make sure I can get to one. It'll be my first time seeing the movie

I think I will pass on the corporate cash in. I own Purple Rain on betamax, VHS, laserdisc, bluray, and DVD. I am sure I have watched it over 50 times i n my life. I saw it in the theater several times when it was first released on the 80s. And the audiences were far more well behaved than they are today. There were no cellphones or loud, inconsiderate talking. The purple bandwagon had not become overcrowded and obnoxious yet.
Maybe if somone devises a mini Prince film festival with PR SOTT, UTCM, and Graffitii Bridge, that might be something else entirely Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

^ feel you. But I don't know, there's something to being surrounded by people who are there to enjoy what you're enjoying and then those that see it on the big screen for the first time. Can't get that at home even with friends.

Yup. I'm going to see it in the theater again for the shared group experience and for the big sound that I can't get at home.

No it's not a corporate cash in. It's a beautiful gesture if anything. I doubt it will make much money for anyone of any. It would be a drop in the bucket for WB and AMC. People will be so negative to turn any good gesture into something that mirrors their soul.

I feel the same way. I'm sure that I'll be able to watch it in the future, but right now, it's too raw. I can't even listen to his music right now, it's too painful for me.

Keep fooling yourself or maybe you are just that naive. If it were a beautiful gesture, they would run it for free. AMC is a Chinese owned company that just made a move to buy Carmike and become the largest movie theater chain in America. Everything it does is to cash in on America - sorry, that is the real world. They dont love Prince or his fans. [Edited 4/22/16 18:59pm] Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

^ No you're fooling your. You don't know the economics of the movie business and a 100 theaters playing a movie for one weekend is nothing to get anybody excited over. And if they do make a buck good for them! Thats's the reason the Prince and WB made the movie for in the first place. Naive? I think it's you that needs to grow up and stop being so wet behind the ears speaking about things you know nothing about.

You dont know what I know. What I stated is fact. You dont like it but that doesnt change the truth. AMC is not doing this for love of Prince. I dont need to convince one person who is delusional enough to think so. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

Yes you're delusional and you don't know what you're talking about. Educate yourself before posting about topics you have no knowledge in. [Edited 4/22/16 19:20pm]

Got my tickets. So cool to finally get to see in on the big screen. I looks like a lot of theaters are playing it.

I went to one of the AMC screenings this afternoon. Managed to get a ticket before they sold out. A lot of people in the theatre wore purple. Billy Sparks' scenes seemed to get the biggest reaction from the crowd . I did get misty-eyed during the musical performance of "Purple Rain" Hey...

I went this afternoon and theater was about half full, although some of the evenings showings are sold out. But a good bit of cheering and clapping at parts. . Several people were wiping their eyes, during Purple Rain, including me. I lost it a bit at that point. But of course the movie ends on the highest of high points at the end of Baby I'm A Star, so had good feelings and heard someone playing Head in their car as I left in the parking lot.

Yes the tix were only about $6 so not like they are cashing in on this. Also playing in small theaters and not that many screenings. It is a nice gesture and also makes people feel good about AMC. Yes everything corporations do are to make higher profits. That is their only purpose.

Went on Saturday. Every seat was filled, sold out theatre. People dancing, laughing, singing, crying. Some more obnoxious than others but everyone grieves in their own way haha. Glad I went, very special.

I heard the money was going to charities and not his Estate. I was excited about this at first but this made me skeptical like they were trying to cash in on this unfornate circumstance.

Boxoffice mojo makes no mention of it on its charts so it is not a offical release. I did not even think to ask if it was digital or film? I assume digital.... "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

It was digital at the screening I attended. Hey...

I wondered whether it would be digital and couldn't tell. I would imagine it had to be. My showing was about 70% full. I went to the fancy theater that sells wine and electronic reclining seats. It was the best experience ever. Everyone was in a great mood and smiles all around. It was a great gesture whatever the reason to have people see it on the big screen to celebrate his life.

Went, They had to open another screen because so many people showed up. All kinds of people from every walk off life. People sang clapped and cheered. Some even got up and danced at the end. It definitely is better seeing it on the big screen. I'm glad went. Wish it had better sound though.
