SoulAlive

He's got a brother,a sister and a few nephews.I'm sure he figured this all out a long time ago.

Plus, maybe one of his business associates will handle things,as well.

Under Minnesota state law, the wealth of an unmarried individual with no children goes to their grandparents, parents and siblings

So maybe it will be his sister?

Being so protective of his music I imagine he will have left things in good hands. I just don't want to start seeing his music used to advertise anything or being covered by talentless nobodies now he's not around to exert control.

I dont want to see someone else making decisions on his work. Whoever ends up in charge will be cashing in. And when cashing in, the moves will be based on money. I dont want to see the market flpoded withnon descript unfinished stuff thrown together from the vault, endless and pointless greatest hits repackages and box sets, and - the worst - a release where they get other artists and producers to work them over so they can call it the new Prince project. We have seen all of these things happen with Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix and even Rick James.

Prince blessed us will enough. There is so much already out there that he did the way he wanted it. A a fan who bought the first album when it was released in the 70s, have remained devoted and I ahve everything in my collection. I built it across these 4 decades because I knew this day would come and I wanted to make sure I never had to live without Prince. The sad thing is that legends nevver get to remain who they were in death. We make them something else over time - distorted and altered to fit other purposes and agendas.

Good post.

The current situation was always likely to arise, as, by recent years, it looked unlikely he would ever remarry or have any further children; (I also wonder how many true friends he had, but that's another matter confused) so it's to be hoped that P and his legal team had made proper preparations 'in the event of' ...

Hopefully Paisley was/ is being properly secured, to prevent any recordings or indeed personal items being brought out by unauthorised parties, though exactly who is now in control (if anyone) of his property and affairs at this stage is unclear and very probably will be decided in court in due course.

Agreed, just look at the musical and legal hell Hendrix's unfinished/ unreleased recordings went through for 30 years. That makes the controversies re. MJ's unreleased work look like a walk in the park.

One presumes Tyka would be the obvious 'inheritor' of the estate or at least his wealth, though how close was he to his family in recent years? What's in his will?

To speculate, could the unreleased catalogue end up being sold or licensed to Warners??

It's very likely that he would be horrified at the thought of other people tinkering with or, even worse, adding further instrumentation to his unfinished tracks after his demise. Though I guess this is likely to happen sooner or later on any posthumous albums, if only to make them sound 'more modern' or 'commercial'.

I sincerely hope P didn't have it written into his will that his unreleased work never be released in any form, or even worse, destroyed. My guess is, on balance, he wouldn't do that to his fans and he left the question unresolved.

Mind you, from the outside looking in, like many people, facing one's own mortality wasn't a subject he liked to deal with, so who knows? And at his relatively young age in modern terms, I guess he wasn't planning on going anywhere anytime soon ... sad

As some other orgers have said, it is all so very sad and doesn't really matter at the moment sad. We have just unexpectedly lost our best musical friend, so now is the time to mourn and reflect. Let the future look after itself, life has a nasty habit of moving on ...

And remember, though the man has left this world, the music and the myth will live forever cool.

The thought of anyone touching Prince's music and tinkering with it makes me cringe and feel physically ill, if that were to happen I would rather it never surface.

Part of me would not be suprised if some of it is set aside for release for the fans but the rest is deemed to be destroyed. I just hope nobody takes anything out of there - that they dont touch but his wishes are adheared to. Miss him so much already

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Many media outlets are reporting that as well...

I sincerely doubt Vault material would be tinkered with in that way.

For the last 20 years, there has been a battle between (i) fans who wanted old material released in its original state and (ii) Prince (who always wanted to tinker with the old material and, to the extent it would ever get released, do so in a tinkered way).

Take Crystall Ball as an example... Prince is the one who tinkered with the original tapes and layered unwanted effects on them. He's the one who cut off Crucial to do an unwanted segue.

My point here is not to pick at and refight old battles that have been waged here on the Org or elsewhere over many years, but let's not create some strawman argument that there are people out there trying to keep Prince's original tapes from being released exactly as he made them. The only person who has fought for years to do that is Prince.

As controlling and stubborn as he was about his s***. I'd be shocked to see that he still not in some kind of control of what's his.
