I have read over the countless posts of those grieving here. I simply am echoing everything that has been said, I suppose just to feel understood. I had someone unfollow me a couple of days ago... an extended family member no less... who said they were unfollowing me for a while and suggested grief counseling. It would have been nice if I thought for a moment that they were being actually understanding of what has happened, but I believe it was said in a different tone entirely (and I'll bet many of you are nodding your heads, since some of your posts have indicated similar happenings).

I have tried to give myself a good shaking to snap out of it. I've tried reasoning with myself. But like hundreds of others out there, it's as if a piece of me... a piece of actual close family... is gone forever. For most of us, he was a kindred spirit. He reached across all barriers of language, race, color, and creed.

He was the only artist I can think of that was as gifted as he was. He was the only one who changed SO much of the world around him, not just the music industry, but so much more. The sheer talent, creativity and artistic performance that was ever changing, and the fact that he not only demanded privacy, but actually retained his private life is absolutely remarkeable. He was respected by so many people from so many different backgrounds and yes, the outpouring of love and condolences from every facet of our world screams the words that we cannot find to say about him.

Yes, I too would love to see a day set aside that recognizes and commemorates the life of Prince.

I wake up every day along with the hundreds of other voices on here, thinking at first it is a nightmare, only to realize it is real. I always thought he'd be here and grow old with the rest of us from his generation. It's so shocking.. I'm just stunned.. and no matter how hard I pinch myself, I can't wake from this. Yes, it will mellow. Those of us who have lost family, brothers, sisters, children, parents... we know it will mellow and we all probably question ourselves on why it feels so similar to a family members death. We should all remember that truthfully we are all connected, and that he created a world of family who truly did love him. It's not just his music we miss. It's HIM. He was part of us and no amount of time nor no other person will ever fill the void left. We were blessed to have had him in our time and to have been a part of it all.

In 100 years, it won't matter anyway. In that amount of time, we'll all make our own crossing over. It's difficult to move forward, but that's exactly what we have to do. This life is so terribly short. I believe he lived many lifetimes worth in the 57 years he had on this earth. It was always about what was to come... it was always about something bigger than what we "see" here. We only see such a small portion of the "big picture". Forever... it IS a mightly long time and there IS something else... that is the FACT. Right now, the sting of death hurts greatly.. we're still here but trust me, there's more. He isn't in the body he left. Now he's truly free.

What began when I was 12 is supposed to be over, after more than 3 decades. Just like that.

I apologize for not being a regular member, and seeking solace and guidance only now. It's certainly not for lack of love for this man or those that are connected to him through an appreciation for all that he means to us.

I am still in the early stages of denial. I am still waiting for the follow-up to this tragic news story. Something along the lines of "In an elaborate hoax, previously reported as deceased artist Prince has admitted to orchestrating one of the biggest stunts ever in staging his own demise. Reports from those close to the artist said the deception was an attempt to wake up the senses of those claiming to have an appreciation of true talent, because, if it ends here, where does that leave us?"

I think it is so painful for so many of us because of what Prince and his music represented to us, even though we never knew him personally. It really feels like my youth was wiped out over night, which makes no sense logically, but makes total sense emotionally. What does that leave us with, trying our best to persevere and go on, finding strength in that which remains...

^ What he said... a huge part of our lives is just.. gone.. it's not going to make sense to anyone but us.

First thing I said when my daughter called me (I was grocery shopping) and said, "Hey mom, can you see if this is real? Prince, they're saying, is gone..".... "No", I said, "A thousand times No... it's got to be a hoax... it's not real... that can't be a real thing... no way..."

Yes, you just never know who the long term survivors will be... It was such a total shock when my friend (the same age as I) passed on suddenly in much the same way as Prince did. It wrenched my heart to see Stevie struggle not to cry when he spoke of Prince in the media... I'm turning to Songs In The Key of Life which got me through a lot long before I ever heard Prince sing... Prince's music helped me get through the loss of my friend; now, Stevie's music will have to get me through the loss of Prince. I'm so glad I got to see Stevie perform the album in its entirety.

Had to come by and pay my respects. Like so many, this has hit me hard. I'm truly heartbroken.

A world without Prince makes no sense to me. For nearly 35 years he's been a huge part of my life.

D’Angelo to Lead Special Tribute to Prince on ‘The Tonight Show’

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will host a special musical tribute to Prince led by D’Angelo, who will welcome a slew of special guests throughout the performance as the show pays homage to the late musical icon.

Last night on the show, Fallon and Questlove recounted a story about Prince once challenging Fallon to a game of ping pong on the night his daughter was born. Watch that segment here.

The Tonight Show airs at 11:35 PM on NBC.

Drove up to Paisley today, for the first time in years. It felt good to see all of the beautiful things left behind by fans. It was still hard to look at the building knowing that he will never again be inside, working on that next thing. How is this possible?!?

Don't curse the darkness, People.

What did we learn from Prince?

Love.

Plain and simple.

I LOVE that I was alive while He was.

I LOVE that I lived during His lifetime AND Bowie's simultaneously.

I LOVE that they both found their calling and it led to our JOY.

Really, Folks.

We are lucky sonsabitches.

Let's feel that blessing and be thankful they were here as long as they were.

LUCKY US!

Carmen Electra: "I Will Always Love Him"

04/16

There would be no Carmen Electra without Prince.

After arriving in Hollywood, the aspiring dancer and singer auditioned for an all-girl group that Prince was assembling in the early 1990s using her birth name, Tara Leigh Patrick. She didn't make the group, but Electra wound up with something better — a place under Prince's wing as one of his protégés.

He would guide her short-lived music career, but not before renaming the artist formerly known as Tara Leigh Patrick. As she once recalled, Prince gave her the name Carmen Electra, telling her, "You're not a Tara. You're not Tara. You're Carmen.

After hearing about Prince's death at the age of 57 , Electra sent a statement to The Hollywood Reporter via her rep, Jack Ketsoyan, saying that she was "shocked and heartbroken."

"The world has lost a truly incredible spirit and musical genius. What a blessing it is to be one of the chosen ones who had the chance to work so closely with him," said Electra, who also was romantically involved with Prince. "He gave me my name, he believed in me, and he has inspired an entire generation. I will always love him."

She ended her statement with "Sometimes It Snows in April," a nod to his popular ballad from the album Parade, which served as the soundtrack to the film Under the Cherry Moon.

From Liv Warfield, who I saw open for Prince in 2014 sad :

It took me a couple days to speak. And I just want to hear you say, "Liv, we're going to jam tonight, wanna come?"...

I just miss you my brother. There's so much I want to say.

I love you.

You shared your light an never once had too. You gave selflessly... You shared serious wisdom.....I remember when Marva brought me to my first rehearsal and I was soooo scared. I was singing so low...and in my mind I was like "I can't do this"...You walked away to give me some time.. And Marva said" sing out Gurl"!!! And I belted out the notes to some sly and the family song... And you walked back into the room and smiled!! I'll never forget that...Lololol...you pushed me/us constantly on and off stage.
Music was the center but you cared so much for the world...Going back and reading your lyrics..my goodness my friend...wow!!

You left us lessons thru these words..
I also remember the time you held my hand and walked me thru the airport when I tore my achilis. The jokes you cracked when I tried to wear this wig that time..Lololol...

this can go on and on. But I know you know!!..I'm going to miss you so much.
I wish you could feel this love from all over the world...Actually you can!! You've been sending us signs to let us know.
Prince, I know your already putting together the best band up there..! I can't wait to see what you've been working on when I see you again! ‪#‎purplevaultinheaven‬‪#‎foreverreign‬

I have teared up, but still have not cried heavily. Probably because I'm still in shock. Prince, my first musical memory of your genius was "Controversy" which I heard for the first time when I was 10 years old in 1981. I really liked the song, but thought you were a bit strange. I continued to enjoy your music, the whole "1999" album. After the " Purple Rain" album came out, I fell in love with your genius. At the tender age of 13, you became and have remained my favorite artist.

I write this as if you are still alive. I guess you are to me and many of your fans because we'll always have your beautiful music, photos, and videos.

I went to see "Purple Rain" again, during it's limited release. One of the best movie experiences of my life! It felt more like a concert. We were laughing, crying, singing, and cat calling (during your sexy moments) razz

They can all kiss my butt with their homages and tributes.

They all suck, even ol' Bruce turned out pathetic, it was a massacre.

Please musicians of the world, please oh please shut your mouths. It only comes to show that you're bad singers without the studio technology to audio-photoshop your average performances.

A month ago, no one fucking cared about the Purple One, except for the occasional award ceremony. You always need your glory of the past / circus freak on these occasions.
Now all of a sudden everyone is in awe... fucking vultures.

Even Sheila E. gets on my nerves. Claiming out of nowhere, now he's dead, that they were engaged? Responding to the cesspool that TMZ is? I'll leave that on account of shock, but I'm mad at her.

In a week Skipper will be gone from the news, and at last all of this hypocrisy will cease.

I often wished Prince would do that instead of this, just to spread his art better to the masses.
Well, it turns out the masses are the rednecks who ruined all the live recordings of his last tour.
The masses are the bozoes who think that the Super Bowl is the only concert he's given in the last ten years. Buffoons who resume his life to "Purple Rain", "Kiss", and "Cream". Tourists!

Now I understand. We are special people who recognized someone special.
We championed a maverick, an outsider, someone with a vision of the future.
Someone persuaded that you can be good in more than one field, and that's not what the world wants one to believe.

Go on, World, go back to your shitty mp3s, it's been almost two decades now of watching you slowly destroy everything a true musician stands for: audio quality, good songs, sincere performances, risk taking. The grungiest guitar shredder is a poser. Small men, everywhere. Fated to pretend.

Poor World, it's too easy to herald Prince and praise his vertues, as an alibi for your total lack of.
As an official member of the New Power Generation, I feel entitled to give U the finger.

Have you had your plus sign to day?
Positivity yes
Do we mark you present, or do we mark you late?

Is that a good man
Walking down that street with that money in his hand
Is that a good man?
Why do you dog him
If that was yo father, tell me, would you dog him then
Would you dog him?

Is that all your gold?
Where did it come from? What did you have to do?
Can you sleep nights?
Do you dream straight up or do you dream in W's?

Wave your hands for positivity y'all!

All the boys and all the girls
You are the new kings of the world!
Shall the court sing together

"In every man's life there will be a hang-up
A whirlwind designed to slow you down
It cuts like a knife and tries to get in you
This Spooky Electric sound
Give up if you want to and all is lost
Spooky Electric will be your boss"

Call People magazine, Rolling Stone
Call your next of kin, 'cause your ass is gone
He's got a 57 mag with the price tag still on the side
Cuzzin' when Spooky say dead, you better say died
Or you can fly high right by Spooky and all that he crawls for
Spooky and all that he crawls for

Don't kiss the beast
We need love and honesty, peace & harmony

Love and honesty, peace and harmony
I said, hold on to your soul, you got a long way to go

Sho' nuff, sho' nuff, sho' nuff
