Watching MTV live makes me really appreciate Prince

Right now "Later with Jools Holland" is on, and one guy even covered "How Come you Don't Call Me Anymore". I had on an entire Amy Winehouse concert last night....

and Prince has made his live sound and energy so solid, I think for his entire career. His arrangements and strength of vocals and dramatic antics just runs circles around many of these acts! It makes it sound like a high school talent show at times when I see other acts and hear their arrangements and energy.

PS this is a new network I recently dicscovered, new to me... MTVlive.

not MTV by itself. all they show is music.

Okay a John Legend concert just started and it's pretty good. I might be biased because I met and hung out and shot footage of an interview with his drummer last year at a studio when they were here on tour... lol.

Yeah...the channel used to be called Palladia. It was a great channel. They focused on HD live performance and also had a show I think was 2 hours with nothing but newer videos...not even a V.J. not sure why or how it got sold to MTV but I hope the channel retains its credibility despite the creditless 'MTV' being around.

oh shit it is Palladia? I used to watch that. I just looked up info:

Viacom-owned music network Palladia has been renamed MTV Live, network executives said Monday.

The network, which initially launched as MTV’s MHD:Music High Definition in 2006 before being re-branded to Palladia two years later, will feature a new logo and an increased focus on live concert music programming, according to MTV.

Wouldn't that be great if they played some Prince performances from award shows? Or Cochella? Or any music festival he's done.

There are very few concerts that are as well done as Prince's shows. I didn't know concerts could be that good TBH. I've been to a few other shows recently and they don't compare. But I will say, the Roots put on a good show. Great musicianship, lots of energy and the band is really tight and polished. And D'Angelo seems to be putting on a nice show atm too. It's basically a Prince show though in all honesty lol.

I remember when TGE came out, and there was a dedicated prince special on VH-1 where he "hijacked" the station. That was pretty cool.

Other than that though, he was pretty scarce on MTV those days.

^ se7en... if I recall correctly:

there were 2 Prince all-day specials on MTV in the early 90s:

Probably 1991 and 1993. I remember I made recordings on VHS-videotapes, oh thats a truly looong time ago..

I had the "video break" with Prince hijacking the tv channel as well, (mentioned by you), but this was recorded from VH1, in very early 1996 IIRC..... and yes this was cool and fantastic, yeah I agree... biggrin cool
