It's definitely a guitar, with some effect (I'm not able to tell which though but I guess just a pedal, nothing really special here)

Foolish me--I assumed the question would be the one answered with "Prince wrote it while he was looking in a mirror." That seems to be the only thing he wants to say about it, so it must be the only thing important to know about the song.

All I know about the real question is what databank already said--guitar, with something done to it.
