I'm sure he was being general about that, referring to more city killing violence from guns rather than taking your gun away from hunting, my take/opininon...

Respect to you for serving in the military. And respectfully, if DOES sound like you overdo the love for guns if a singer expresses an opinion that you disagree with about guns, and you lose a lot of respect for him. That's the opposite of "to each his own." If you meant that, it wouldn't change the amount of respect you have for an entertainer. He's not exactly like you - and that's bad?

.

How does a musician you (used to) like singing about a society where guns are removed threaten you any more than him singing "I wish there was no black and white" or "I wish we all were nude"?

Of course the answer is more guns. Arm the teachers, arm the citizens, get fully automatic assault rifles in as many hands as possible. Only then will people feel truly safe. FFS America, once a great country.

When its much harder/expensive for a crook to get a gun, you will find fewer crooks that have guns. The serious ones, like bank robbers, will find a way but an absense of gun culture, like in the UK, keeps guns out of the hands of petty criminals the not-so-smart. If you're gonna rob a house in the USA, you probably need a gun, because you may have to face a gun. No so elsewhere. Anyway, its kind of a negative cultural thing: The States has its gun culture. Other countries have their own things that outsiders think are dumb. But if your part of the culture you won't see it as outsiders do.

You should never take your political cues from musicians. Prince or otherwise.

I love Prince and spend lots of money on his albums and concert tickets.

That being said, he's a a musician. The guy makes music. Why is his opinion any more valid than anyone else. Is he more educated on the issue? Who knows?! Who cares?!

I don't care what Prince's political views are, as long as he makes music that speaks to me.

As for my political views (and religious views for that matter), I'll take care of them on my own.

Now if I'm looking for information on songwriting, instruments, playing solos, setting up a stage, recording stuff, I'd definately take his opinion seriously.

It's a win win for gun/arms manufacturors. Sell ppl guns to protect themselves from ppl who bought guns to protect themselves. One thing is hunting, other thing is selling assault weapons to the general public. Gun control don't mean gun ban, it means fewer idiots carrying assault weapons. Look at statistics, more ppl killed by home-owned guns than ever by terrorists in the states, yet billions are spent fighting terrorists. Seriously?

I was very happy to hear P call for gun control. It does not mean a person hates guns or wants to ban them or wants to prevent ppl from hunting. It means sensible distribution for sensible use.

There's no such thing as an "assault rifle" . . assault is verb. rifles are inanimate objects not capable of their own action

The statistics are skewed and used to appeal to the emotion of people like yourself. In reality most of those statistics include such suicide - so such a statistic has no credibility as someone determined enough to kill themselves can also jump off a bridge. See: Golden Gate Bridge

Using fear to smother rational debate is a weak cop out. As are your one liner arguments and ridiculous descriptions of assault rifles being inanimate objects. The statistics don't lie. Yes they can manipulate stats but it doesn't change the fact that the USA has had more deaths caused by your own people on temper tantrum tirades, carrying inanimate objects than terrorism.

-

This conservative argument of so called 'purity' based on a 1700's law stating the right to bear arms has no place in today's society. Back then a gun took 30 seconds to reload for one bullet whereas today's assault rifles can unload how many bullets in the same time? Expecting an old law to still adequately cover modern day high tech weaponry is no different than expecting construction workers of skyscrapers to dig holes with spades.

I'm not in favour of hunting but I understand the argument from decent civilians who want to carry out a hobby. But they don't need assault rifles for that.

-

As has been reiterated in this thread, millions of citizens world-wide live in mostly violent free societies in multitudes of countries without the 'right to bear arms' and we are decent nations. Violence breeds violence. So by all means go ahead and arm yourselves as much as possible and think nothing of possible future victims. Maybe one day when it's your child hit in a school by some crazed Father's son who taught them guns were cool and necessary, you might see the other side's argument.

-

It's a billion dollar industry and they've got the perfect market of 300 million in the USA, half of who imo wouldn't recognise freedom if they fell over it on the street. The USA is the laughing stock of the world in all this and it's a pity that half of the nation doesn't have the humility to compare itself honestly to other continents and see where they might grow up. Americans are seldom aware of opinions of cultures outside their own borders and that is one of their biggest tradegies. That is what I call ignorance and arrogance.

-

-https://www.youtube.com/w...-KI1D5NPJs Let your hard-drive control your inner chimp.

-

^ Thizz. Don't tell me your arguments are not emotionally grounded. Your opinions are not your own and you have definitely been influenced from somebody, somewhere and by the society you live in.

-

As for Prince needing body-guards. That is a fact of life that fanatics can get carried away and he's not a big guy, I would take protection as well. Baltimore's 'take all the guns away' is an artisitic view put in melodious poetry to state a wish that many more than just him are in favour of. It's not saying 'follow it' it's saying 'think about it'. Are there other alternatives before we close our mind to change because we're too comfortable in what's familiar.

Funny it's that line that offends you about the song.

For me, it's "ain't no sense in voting".

BTW, I do think it would be wonderful if we could take as many guns away as possible and limit it to law enforcement, the military and lawful hunting. If that could be achieved, there would be far fewer gun-related tragedies.

-

Yes. That line got me too.

I live in Manchester, UK. I think gun control is a very difficult issue. Un Europe I don't think we can relate to the politics of guns. I think this is more to do with our very different histories. In Europe it has been very class ridden and we never had access to guns. By the time we got social justice (temporarily) it was post WW2 and a bit late for guns.
America however is a new world. It is created on the back of people fleeing oppression. If the statement"an Englishmans home is his castle" it is probably far more true for Americans. In this respect they had something individually to protect, so as far as I can see gun culture is part of history and is understandable. In Europe we had nothing to protect as such. Socialism was the empowerment if the working class, in America it was self empowerment. However from a European perspective it can look rather jingoistic and driven by fear. But as I say the cultural history of America is defined by new world and protectionism. That is not a criticism. If anything it is noble and something that offers a lot if lessons

-

@Babynoz: I hear you. That's of course the cultural stereotype description. You have to admit, a lot of Amercicans really think like that when it comes to gun control. Seen the weirdest of stuff online. It's scary man. The ignorance and the guns.

-

Never associated Yahoo though. We in EU think more, coco-cola, hamburgers, movies, bling bling and incessant loud speech. biggrin Every culture has their stereotype. Where I come from they think we're all prostitutes and drug addicts cool

-

Russell Peters is brilliant in sterotypes. He's Canadian/Indian! Love how he rips off his own race and others!

Yahoos are what we call backward people. It's embarassing to be associated with them, lol When they can't even spell bear arms correctly it kind of reinforces the point.
