I finally got 21 Nights today! got 21 Nights today.I know its about 10 years old but I've never got around to buying it until now.I haven't checked out the CD yet but the book amazing! It's pretty heavy 2 and the pictures are great .Just wondering what are everyone's favorite highlights of the CD? There's Joy in repetition

Not many. You should check it out for yourself and make up your mind, but the book is pretty much what I expect his "autobiography" to be. Lots of posturing and very little substance. The music on the CD is good for background noise and not much else.

Ouch.
The CD isn't perfect but has significant highlights.
Some songs with real character in the first half that really capture the freedom of an aftershow (such as Beggin' Woman's Blues, Just Like U and that whole medley of songs). Let down by choosing inferior versions of The One and Whole Lotta Love, and giving Shelby J two songs on the lead, with Prince not even on stage for one of them (as I recall).
The fan testimonials at the end though - what on earth is that about?? [Edited 3/31/16 18:58pm]

I don't know how such an excellent live performer could release such a terrible live CD, but Prince figured out a way. . It's a self indulgent but pretty nicely designed photo book...but the music is just some of the lowest of the lows of P's career if you ask me. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

Im listening to the 21 nights CD now.can't believe he didn't do the guitar solo on "3121"!! Is this a actual full show from a concert or did prince just pick out songs from different shows and put them on a CD? [Edited 3/31/16 21:04pm] There's Joy in repetition

I hope you never paid much! This book could have been good, instead we get a glorified hotel brochure and a poor representation of the event on CD. Mince.

i will never understand peoples hate for this cd. i think too many people judge by whats not on it. sure, theres tons of stuff from those aftershows that would have been amazing to get on disc, but everything that is on the disc is still top notch.

I paid full price for that bloody thing. For one of those Prince ego projects. A proper document of the shows etc could have been great. Unfortunately we forgot that Prince was the boss, and turned it into what he thinks the public should see him as.

Hmm, i liked CD but that book... recently i watched Adorecream youtube video and he mentioned how that book was a pretty disappointment. i saw it is beautfiul, big format but content not so much... [Edited 4/1/16 8:38am]

As I recall, the first half of the CD is from one show, and the second half(ish) is from the final aftershow. The first one was my favourite aftershow from the 21 Nights run (narrowly edging out the rock trio one).

I have only listened to the CD once in full.
It was like he was actually trying to dissapoint people.

It has one or two good moments but it's another case of 'missed opportunity.' It could have been a lot better. As others have said surely some of the 'rock trio aftershow' would have been a better inclusion in place of the Beverly Knight and Shelby tracks. [Edited 4/1/16 7:19am]

I was living ouyt of my suitcase when this came out. The book was too large to lug around, so I burned the CD to my harddrive and tried to donate the book to the Lawrence, KS public library. They rejected it! Lol, rejected a donation? Anyway, I do enjoy the CD still today. We need more of these live concert recordings officially released.
