The only thing it's got going for it is that it's the only official document of that tour/period on film. The reality is that it suffers from poor quality in places, bad editing and it's too short, edited to death. There are better gigs from that period that would have made a much better release too. All my opinion of course.

If you like the ONA tour - hunt down the bootleg Live in Japan DVD...that is top...

Especially the dance-off!

That's the only downfall I don't like.

Other than that. Go watch it and give us a report.

I don't like it. Very amateurish and non-professional, the way its filmed.

And like said by someone above (connected), it's cropped to pieces, so many edits.

(Cropped is that the right word, Im a non-english speaking, here..)

it is interesting that with lot of Prince live shows, both on DVD/Video and CD often it's an amalgam of a number of different shows edited together. It might be that he believes that no-one show reflects the whole tour but sometimes it's nice just to have a document of that one show with it's unique aspects included.

I find it very odd that he cut out The Rainbow Children and Muse 2 The Pharao from the live DVD. Didn't he open every ONA show with those songs?

It has to be said though, the performance of Somtimes It Snows In April, as brief as it is, is truly breathtaking.

Its too bad he turned this amazing show into nothing more than a footnote. I was at the taping.

Missing are Power Fantastic (which he should play at Piano & Mic),and an extra funky long Days of Wild, All the crtitics luv u in vegas & many more gems.

Yes he opened on the drums very briefly. I remember at the sound check they were doing Xenophobia & some super fam chickie poo was too close to the stage acting the fool. He made some comment on how "someone iiked the liquor too much" & ended up cutting the s. check short.

The show clockd in over 3 hours. It would blow minds if he were to release the show as a whole, amateur camera work aside.

I'm liking the performance of "push & pull". Prince sounds great on guitar .this Nikki Costa chick isn't a great singer though .

I rather suspect the footage simply wasn't useable from those songs, along with many others. It was so poorly filmed. As an example, for Maceo's solo in Gotta Broken Heart Again, they have to cut to stills. Clearly, there wasn't a single useable shot for that part of the song.

Added to that, it's been encoded terribly, and shot on cheap cameras - so it doesn't even look as good as some of the bootlegs out there. The colours lack vibrancy and the interlacing is awful.

As a document of the tour, it does it absoutely no justice at all. As I much as I enjoyed having a DVD release, and watched it many times, it is one of the most disappointing releases by Prince since I became a fan.

And can someone explain to me why The Ride is a "bonus" and not just part of the setlist?

I like how it complement the tracklist from ONA Live and ONA Aftershow. Alongside C-Note and a few other stand-alone tracks/singles, this tour was extensively documented bat the time smile

Of course there's always the bootleg that makes you think "why didn't he release that instead" but come on, we got 5 to 6 hours of official ONA Tour releases altogether!

My only issue with Aladdin (which I listen to much more often than I watch it) is that the sound level goes up and down between tracks. It makes no sense at all.

Yeah I noticed .it's hard to hear Prince say whole lotta love after the guitar solo.I had to turn up my volume on that one.
