- Well that would be a nice unconventional way to present a book. An extended MP4. Helpful for the blind. But a hard copy for notes is always a must. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

Audio books are hardly unconventional. They are an important media platform for most authors these days. The Elvis Costello memoir on CD (read by the author - almost 19 hours!) is fantastic:

^ I know. Just worried that Prince's 'unconventional' means audio only and I'd like a hard copy. Librovox is also my thing. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

It's not about sales. It's a gift to fans. - Undertaking any autobiography, is a massive task. It's an inside look from the kitchen kleineworstje over a long period of many interesting creative years. I wonder how many pages your autobiography would fill and whether anything in there would be worth reading, or if anyone would even be interested in reading it. To the publisher it's all about sales. This is no gift to fans. And you know who decides a second printing? The publisher. Also, Prince doing this book as a gift to fans? Right... I hope Random House pays D'Angelo and Questlove to read the audiobook version of Prince's MEGA MEMOIR so that it actually has a chance of being interesting. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Gotcha. Of course there would have to be a paper version too. Audio only would make no sense.

We're clearly not the same page and I don't want to be. Why would Prince bother to invest the time into this after all these years of not having done so? He's a musiciain not an author. I doubt it's an easy task. More like stepping outside your comfort zone which I doubt you do much kleineworstje. The amount of bitching about a book that may or may not even see the light of day is wild....lol
If it's true that Prince truly hates his fans there seems to be some real circle of life shit going on....

Because the whole Tidal thing isn't working out for him? Because he's empty inside and needs the attention? The hell if I know. But those theories are much more realistic than "a gift to fans." That's laughable. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

- Who else would he write it for? Himself? For history maybe because it would be unfair to not share and pass on what he has learnt or discovered over the years after giving so much to the world in terms of creativity. - Which ex-band do you belong to? Or are you a Warner employee? Prince not bending to your wishes huh? Or didn't bend in the past and you're still hung over...

. Oh look, another fan who fails to ignore THE MOUNTAIN OF EVIDENCE. Here's an idea: go look up every publication Prince was involved in (books, magazines) and see if they're shite. Hint: some of them are mentioned here already. PrinceVault has a list. But for some reason you lot seem to think that we should ignore past performance and pretend all the previous shite he published (and his illiterate Twitter feed and his lying-my-ass-off interviews) aren't indications of the sort of thing we're gonna get. . So now we have at least two issues: chances this is going to be actually published (already very slim considering his past performance and especially considering this invovles something a YEAR into the future) and chances this isn't going to suck (very slim considering his other written output). ---- You are comparing fan club mags and books with autobiography with a major publisher. In the end if this falls apart it will be between Prince and publisher and will have no effect on our lives.

What's unconventional about Costello's project isn't that there's an audio version, but that there is also a companion/soundtrack album for the book, with some rarities and unreleased stuff. So...

how many people these want to hear what Prince has to say? Prince is still one of the most respected musicians alive, whether or not Prince.org wants to believe so or not. That's like saying who cares what Keith Richards has to say anymore? (I use Keith because his memoir is highly acclaimed and is only a few years old) Prince writing a book is going to draw intrest from a lot of people, especially fans and music lovers in general.

My thoughts....
A: When has Prince ever delivered on something he announced a year in advance? (Still waiting for those remasters, Montreux release from NPG Films, etc.) Believe it when it's in your hands... . B: Given his track record, expect the book to be as incomprehensible as Vanity's, filled with revisionist history (let's be honest, his ego will not let him admit his many faults) and stuff we know already, and be sold at an extremely high price, but be in bargain bins within months of his release. (Just like the stacks and stacks of brand new 21 Nights I saw at the former Borders bookstore for $6.75 around 6-7 months after it's release...)

okay, well look at his current tour, and all of the positive press he has recieved from it.. Madonna's last album sold more than P's sure.. but did you see all of the AWFUL press she was just getting for her shows in Australia.. as opposed to P who just has been praised over and over again for the recent shows in Australia.. so no, i don't believe respect in interest has a whole lot to do with current album sales..

You should have bought some, they're selling for around $43 (UK£30) on Amazon at the moment. Regarding your other point, almost all autobiographies see things from the writer's point of view, that's what this genre is. As mentioned Charlie Chaplin reduces a wife to a paragraph. I bet Donald Trump (if he has written one) doesn spend the entire book raking over his possible faults.

Wow literally just finished reading the mess around Madonnas Oz shows...really feel for her. Sad thing is that if it was Prince many would rejoice at this failure...whilst any success is put down to novelty value as per BVHs recent comment.

Keith Richards' memoir was indeed highly acclaimed, but Keith Richards has always been a compelling & far more revealing personality & interview than Prince & anyone who follows music & popular culture & is being honest knows & expects this. Richards' book was revealing, witty & informative, with just the right amount of questionable dish.
Can we expect the same from Prince? Time will tell, but given his personality, I won't hold my breath. Will it be honest? Will it be white-washed? Will it be a revisionist take on things we've known for many years already? Will it be a holy roller account of his life story? And why the Super Bowl cut-off date?
And the audiobook version? I'm sure Larry Graham needs work...
