New topic Printablemy final word on this topic. I am genuinely excited, I have zero reason to doubt that it will not be released, i am confident that it will be a good mix of cryptic comments as well as a few interesting revelations, hopefully some never been seen before pics & for many of us it will be a great addition to our collections. I am truly saddened that this announcement which in the context of Prince is huge & also I might add has a very credible team behind him has been met with such derision.

. I just love your absurd B/W dichotomy. Employees aren't slaves who should execute orders, they need to have input. Not all companies are like Mickey D's. If Prince demands a camel in the middle of the night in Minneapolis in winter, you should be able to tell him he's a delusional fool, not go out and try to fulfil his wishes. The likes of W&L called him on his BS and we got great music. His current band members just kiss his arse and we get shite. Opinions are like assholes Bart. We've all got one. This is a fascinating topic, as much for the fan reaction as for the news itself. It is the first piece of truly uncharted territory in Prince's career arc in, what? 25 years? I'd say it is the first thing he has done since directing Graffiti Bridge (yes, he directed Under the Cherry Moon, but that was taking over a film on which someone else has already done professional pre-production, so it was very different than the all-in-in-my-own-facility-and-my-way quality of GB) for which we have absolutely no reference regarding what to expect. Sure, there are all the things he has done over the years. 21 Nights on the book front, and everything from NPGMC and Crystal Ball to the HitnRun albums on the music/business side as points of reference, but not one of those things is a direct analog for this book. What will be the content? Presuming his co-author doesn't obliterate Prince's unique voice, what's his cadence like as an author? This is a genuinely fascinating prospect. There's a lot of concern regarding what Prince will and will not say. I do not expect stories of Vanity's favorite positions, nor much in the way of real insight regarding his band dynamics. Many have said Prince has shown a pretty skewed view of those relationships, and they're not wrong. This is a guy who is clearly not the most socially gracious person the world has ever known. But for my money, that stuff is not the draw of his lifetime narrative - I already know all I need to about him personally. But...just consider who he is. Uniquely productive. He has made so much music for so many years. He has created some truly spectacular pieces of pop craft. I cannot imagine he won't go into some detail about his ideas regarding creation and how to stay atop one's muse over the long haul. How grand and fascinating an opportunity is that for a longtime follower? There's nobody like him, and he has so many stories only he can tell. The personal stuff? Not holding my breath, nor trusting the source to be objective. But definitely interested in the professional. And you KNOW he's going to cover that. I don't blame a single person for expecting this to be a whitewashed slab of crap, and that's if it ever comes out at all. Prince has instilled this lack of faith in his followers - the list of broken promises, disappointments and, yes, even lies, is long and frustrating. But let's all keep in mind, that if this thing comes to market, and is even a little bit in the neighborhood of what it has the potential to be, it can be something amazing for longtime fans - a real gift. If nothing else, it's the first thing from this guy in a generation for which it's arguable we have no idea whatsoever what to truly expect.

KingSausage said: The sales won't justify a second printing. Sadly, you're almost certainly correct. The book announcement forces the question (at least for the publisher who has to pay the advance) - how many people these days want to hear what Prince has to say? Relative to what the number would have been 20 years ago, it's tiny. Factoring in what we know about Prince's philosophical shifts over the years - does anyone expect today's Prince will discuss the PMRC/"Darling Nikki" thing in a way as fascinating as he could have in 1995? - it is difficult to imagine the content Prince will be willing to provide will in any way position the book to break out to a wide audience. Good news for those already interested, of course, is that if the book gets published at all, its appeal in the long term is immaterial. One printing will be plenty. Who's this brother Dan that is mentioned? Prince added that he was at work on the book with “my brother Dan” — the writer and editor Dan Piepenbring of the Paris Review. . Oh look, another fan who fails to ignore THE MOUNTAIN OF EVIDENCE. Here's an idea: go look up every publication Prince was involved in (books, magazines) and see if they're shite. Hint: some of them are mentioned here already. PrinceVault has a list. But for some reason you lot seem to think that we should ignore past performance and pretend all the previous shite he published (and his illiterate Twitter feed and his lying-my-ass-off interviews) aren't indications of the sort of thing we're gonna get. . So now we have at least two issues: chances this is going to be actually published (already very slim considering his past performance and especially considering this invovles something a YEAR into the future) and chances this isn't going to suck (very slim considering his other written output). Fails to ignore the mountain of evidence? I'm assuming you meant that I AM ignoring the "mountain of evidence" because if I FAILED to ignore it, that would mean that I am NOT ignoring it but the point you are trying to make is that I AM ignoring it, right? Anyway, regarding what you think the new book will be like, I can see why you'd be apprehensive about it, given Prince's past of not delivering on promises or fulfilling contracts but that doesn't necessarily mean that he won't release this book. And if he does release it, just because he's been involved with books you didn't like in the past, that doesn't necessarily mean this one won't be good. I haven't read much Prince books because like I said, his personal life is of little interest to me so if this new autobiography doesn't come out, or is full of barely coherent ramblings, then I won't be too disappointed. How about we judge it when we know more about it? You often raise some good points on here but your constant negativity about everything Prince does means you're opinions are overlooked by most people as "That's Bart being Bart". Nobody takes you seriously, which is a shame because I think you do possess a deep knowledge of Prince's music and are capable of bringing that into the conversation. Unfortunately, whereas you know a lot about Prince and his books, new music, tweeting habits etc, you don't like any of them. If you genuinely don't like anything Prince has done in the last 20 years, then why do you bother coming onto a Prince fan site? Spend time doing what you love, you'll feel better. 1

It's not about sales. It's a gift to fans. - Undertaking any autobiography, is a massive task. It's an inside look from the kitchen kleineworstje over a long period of many interesting creative years. I wonder how many pages your autobiography would fill and whether anything in there would be worth reading, or if anyone would even be interested in reading it. - I'd rather have more words than filler pictures. Content and insight. Google has enough pictures. I would like to know if he needs silence to write when he gets an initial idea or does he throw it together from different memoirs and work on it while putting it to music. Great post EmmaMcG. - Exactly. His posts are predictable, thus boring and overly repetitve, containing one mood only. - If he'd bother to read 'Thinking Fast and Slow' he would gain some insight into his own thought process.
