I think the basic premis of this site is that for many every single announcement made re a new product/venture it is met with derision, anger and cynicism.sad but alas very true. Luckily there does seems to be some level headed, balanced (read 'mature') people on here. | |

A "memoir" explaining his family and the people who he met along the way of his creative process means that...hmm...he may explain why Andre Cymone was wrong and he didnt steal Do Me Baby...how did he meet Susannah, how did the relationship fall apart, why no more Wendy and Lisa, why no more Mayte, his feelings about the death of his child...these types of things are what is expected in a memoir. He doesnt need to put all his business in the streets, but he has to know that if he's writing a MEMOIR, some of this must be covered. * That being said..."knowing" Prince the way we do, anyone who's first impression of this is that we are going to get something REAL from him... Everything I do is wonderful, there is never bad things in my history. I didn't make people become cocaine addicts, I did not have bodyguards beat up fans, I was never a butthole to anybody, especially interviewers and Kevin Smith. I'm closer to a fam than a hater, and I didn't get 21 Nights until it was in the cutout section--now, it went there really fast, and it wasn't a real book (and I'm not sure if most people noticed or cared about the album). But pretty much all the rock star memoirs are in the bargain bins within just a few months. They aren't longterm sellers, in my bookstore frequenting experience. A copy or two of a trade edition might hang around longer, but the initial stock (especially if there's a hardcover edition) will either sell or wind up on the cheap shelves pretty quick. I pick those things up all the time for nothing at all. I'll get Prince's as soon as it hits, but I expect it will be cheap soon. | |

I'm really excited about this announcement. I'm optimistic about it being released but I'm also not expecting anything to revealing, but of course I don't really mind I guess. I'm more interested about what Prince's own perception of his life work is rather than dirt on other people. I won't be surprised if it's s little circle jerky either, but I can look over that. Some points I'm looking forward to him talking about if he does are: -His childhood and the story about an Angel so called visiting him and telling him he won't suffer from epilepsy anymore. -the lovesexy / black album story -Under the cherry moon/Graffiti bridge and what he thinks of then now after all these years and how they weren't as successful as he anticipated. Especially the latter. -Mayte possibly but I highly doubt that he will talk about her much | |
