there was a live video for Belle in Europe, it was recorded in Landover, Md, on the Purple Rain tour.

Prince & the Revolution @ 1st Ave 6.7.1984 Birthday Show

1.17days *
2.Our Destiny unrel
3.All Day All Night
4.Free
5.Noon Rendezvous
6.Erotic City *
7.When Doves City
8.Happy Birthday
9.Irresistible Bitch
10.Possessed

A totally different sound, the sparse linn/drum work of Bobby Z and electric guitar solo. Not better just different. Both versions have passionate feel. Lisa Colemans plush playing, the combined guitar cords of Wendy Lisa and the smooth bass of BrownMark. Love the club sounds in the background. This version sounds like the build of an ocean wave

hahaaaaa

This next song is dedicated to that little girl over there

Sheila E dame

1 2 3

I've been wondering what 2 wear
I love our noon rendezvous
I know U tell me U missed me
And I long 2 make love 2 U

Your words, they intoxicate me
I shiver each time that U speak
How much more can I endure, my love?
The sound of your voice makes me weak

If my bodily functions operate
This way when U just call my name
I'd hate 2 see when we are finally
Playing that nasty love game

Your words, they intoxicate me
I shiver each time U speak
How much more how much more can I endure, my love?
The sound of your voice makes me weak
Guitars & drums
Lisa

(don't know what they are saying) .....my baby
You'll keep sing
(Prince softly rips into a guitar solo)
Sitting in a cafe, waiting 4 my baby
Sitting in a cafe, waiting 4 my baby
Sitting in a cafe, waiting 4 my baby

What shall U or shall I do?

U could show me some new tricks, my love
I'd love 2 be taught by U

Bodyguard for Prince attacks WEWS cameras at Agora in 1984

CLEVELAND - Certain moments burn themselves into your memory; in our video player is one of those moments for me.

September 5, 1984, the pop star Prince was trying to stealthily visit Cleveland to see his then-girlfriend Sheila E perform at the Agora.

Prince, was a red-hot sensation in the music biz at the time. His movie “Purple Rain” was released just a few weeks earlier.

We here at WEWS got a tip he was on his way via private jet to Burke Lakefront Airport. Reporter Paul Orlousky and I went to Burke Lakefront Airport and received clearance to be on the tarmac for the stars arrival.

One problem, one very big problem got in our way – Prince’s bodyguard. Charles “Chick” Hunstberry said “We don’t want no pictures taken, OK?”

We had permission to be there and informed Chick we would be staying. He sent two of his helpers to block our view but as you’ll see in our story, we do see Prince walking to his “limo”.

There was a real limo waiting for Prince, but he didn’t use it. The limo was a decoy, Prince went to the Agora in a camper, you’ll see a quick shot of it in the story.

On to the Agora and the wrath of Chick.

WEWS sent two camera crews to the East 24th St. concert venue - Jim Gates and yours truly.

At 6 foot 8 inches tall and seemingly as wide, Chick's his mission was to keep any media away from Prince, even though we were on public property.

As we began to shoot, the former pro wrestler was like a moth to the light, heading for which ever one of us had a light on. I didn’t use a light for long.

Prince went inside the Agora during the chaos you’ll see in our player.

The story aired at 11 p.m., Orlousky telling the story of Prince, his movie, his music, his persona and the attacks - with a bit of the choice sound bites bleeped out.

Orlousky left WEWS in 1985 for WKYC and later WOIO.

I wonder about that too. He was still in Sheila E's band but was not on the Sheila E album like the Romance 1600 album. So that is a mystery. But he was all over the Romance 1600 album. It's all kinda messy looking. Larry Williams(sax) on the Glamorous Life but Eddie M the sax man on tour/live shows

Maybe Prince didn't want to break up the Sheila E/Eddie M connection. The sax was way more connected and used in her music(Romance 1600) and those 2 were friends from before as well.

"Hold Me" – 5:04 (Sheila E., Constance Guzman, Eddie Mininfield) was I believe written with Eddie M. he did the song on his solo album as well. And he was in the band still when the song was being performed live.

Norbert Stachel listed playing saxophone on Koo Koo (credited, but involvement is unlikely), Pride And The Passion and Love On A Blue Train

I don't think Prince intended on actually having a full time Sax player in his band. The only reason Eric ended up in the Revolution was because the Family dissolved. Miko was supposed to be with the Family too.

I don't know how much he actually performed on th Sheila E (third) album.
Eric Leeds is listed as playing saxophone on One Day (I'm Gonna Make You Mine), Pride And The Passion and Love On A Blue Train

"The Belle of St. Mark" is a song written and recorded by singer/percussionist Sheila E. The Latin-tinged dance song was released in November 1984 in the Netherlands, and in February 1985 in the U.S. and elsewhere. It peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #68 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Singles Charts in 1985. It reached the top ten in the UK, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, and was an NME "Single of the Week".

The song's lyrics tell of an androgynous "frail but passionate creature," referred to as "he" throughout, but called the feminine "Belle". (Androgyny was a prevalent theme in the music of Sheila E.'s mentor, Prince, and common in pop music of the period), The song implies the Belle is French (viz. the lyrics, "His Paris hair, it blows in the warm Parisian air / That blows whenever his Paris hair is there") but St. Mark is commonly known as a location in Venice, Italy.

Actually the Belle of St Mark reached number 18 in the UK , not the top 10.

There are only 6 songs on the album (not counting the Glamorous Life club edit) Hardly value 4 money! Surely she could have come up with more songs.

I remember seeing this video late one night and I had no idea who she was.As I watched it,I was thinking that she kinda reminds me of Prince! A female version of him.A few days later,I go to the record store and check out her album.I see that it is "produced by the Starr Company" smile I knew who that was,lol

lol I remember that same sensation

It was really interesting and fun then that proteges popped up, and you had to search the keywords and credits to connect it with Prince.

It was all unique, each one.

What I want 2 know is - who is the guy on the floor?!!

Make Love Not War, Erotic City Come Alive

co-lead: Sheila E.

The song starts with a guitar string plucked and whammied, before dropping into the drum track. The experimental number relies on a strong bass line and a simple keyboard riff. The song features Prince's voice both sped up and slowed down at various times to sound like different singers. Also featured is Sheila E., in her recording debut,

Initial tracking took place on 30 December, 1983 at Sunset Sound (two days after In A Spanish Villa and Next Time Wipe The Lipstick Off Your Collar, the same day as She's Always In My Hair, and the day before We Can Fuck (later retitled We Can Funk)). It is possible that Sheila E. added her vocals sometime between 1-4 April, 1984, when Prince and Sheila E. worked on tracks for her album The Glamorous Life

"Yeah, he said the “f word,” he was reading the lyric, and I said ‘I’m not singing that.’ He said, ‘Why not?’ I said, ‘Because I’m not going to say that word.’ I said funk, f-u-n-k, and he said the other word." -Sheila E.

All of my purple life
I've been lookin' 4 a dame
That would wanna be my wife
That was my intention main

CHORUS:
If we cannot make babies
Maybe we can make some time
Fuck so pretty, U and me
Erotic City come alive
We could fuck until the dawn
Makin' love till cherry's gone
Erotic City, can't U see?
Fuck so pretty, U and me

Everytime I comb my hair
Thoughts of U get in my eyes
U're a sinner, I don't care
I just want your creamy thighs

CHORUS

All of my hang-ups are gone
How I wish U felt the same
We could fuck until the dawn (Until the dawn {x2})
How I wish U were my dame (Baby, won't U be my dame?)

CHORUS {x2}
(Oh yeah)
(Until the light)

Uh, whoa whoa, whoa whoa, whoa whoa whoa (Mmmm)
Whoa whoa, whoa whoa, whoa whoa whoa {x2}

Baby, U're so creamy

I... I... I... I... I...
Fuck some creamy human jive
Erotic City come alive

CHORUS

If we cannot make babies
Maybe we can make some time
Fuck so pretty, U and me
Erotic City come alive (I... I... I...)
We could fuck until the dawn (Come alive)
Makin' love till cherry's gone (Come alive)
Erotic City, can't U see?
Fuck so pretty, U and me

If we cannot make babies (U and me)
Maybe we can make some time
Some time, some time, some time, Erotic City
We could fuck until the dawn
Makin' love till cherry's gone
Erotic City, can't U see?
Fuck so pretty, U and me
If we cannot make babies
Maybe we can make some time
Yeah, oh, oh, Erotic City

Whoa whoa
Whoa whoa {repeated} Oh no!
Erotic City {x3}
(Baby, U're so creamy) {x2}
Come on and dance while U... while U still have your cherry baby
Cherry baby!
We could fuck until the dawn
Makin' love till cherry's gone
Erotic City, yeah

I... I... I... I...
Erotic City, yeah

Prince has so many songs that were really raunchy — songs like “Darling Nikki,” that spawned a whole national movement spear-headed by Tipper Gore. What are your memories of that time or that song?

I loved it. Are you kidding? Back then?

Even though it was raunchy?

Yeah, I mean, I didn’t know any better. That was the ‘80s. We were having a blast, I’m young. It’s like I walked around: ‘Hey, I’m naked. Look at me.’ Playing, just doing, having a blast. I had so much fun. And I loved the show that he put together. We all loved those songs. That thing was brilliant, then. And some of the songs are still great — just change the lyrics a little bit. I do “Erotic City” in my show. But I change the lyric.

Around the time that “The Belle of St. Mark” and “Glamorous Life” came out, there seemed to be a real push for you to be a pop star and less of a musician. Did you feel that sort of tug-of-war?

That was challenging for me, yeah. I signed as an R&B artist, and when “Glamorous Life” crossed over to pop, it became, ‘Yeah, she was a pop star, not an R&B artist.’ A pop star, that changed it. Then I started changing my show, because then it was more about me singing and less playing, and that’s why by my third record I said I don’t want to do this anymore. It wasn’t true to who I am. Not that I didn’t want to be a pop star or pop music was bad, it was just I wasn’t playing as much and that was the foundation of who I was was a musician. I played percussion and played drums. And the more that I sang and the more I didn’t play, I felt an emptiness and I realized that it just didn’t feel right. So I just walked away from it.

Sheila E Reflects on Her ‘Glamorous Life’: ‘It’s Hard to Be That Popular’
