Wow, that's annoying.

I'd be severely pissed off if I'd bought an (expensive) ticket to listen to Prince and people around me started whooping/screaming everytime he opened his mouth for no apparent reason.

People are twats.

No shit. "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!"

So what if it is? Happy Birthday, now don't ruin it for everyone else. I think that lady was hoping to be brought on stage (that actually did happen at the recent Paul McCartney concert here in Detroit).

Do you know if the purchased song can still be listened to in the tidal app, or do you have to go to your iphone or itunes to lisetn to it?

Once you purchased it, it appears under My Purchases in the Tidal apps so you can stream it and/or add it to a playlist.

lol

No wonder people buy or download bootlegs. A song here, a song there. Why not just release a recording of a complete show???? Prince does everything the hard way and in a way to frustrate his fanbase.

He has no record label restricitng him. He could put out a live CD/DVD anytime or have it to stream. I bet HBO or Netflix would pay big bucks to have the rights. I would pay $$$$ to watch it!

She was up in the box next to me (right of stage) and she looked like she was 'iced' up to the max - absolute freak. At one point i thought she was going to leap over the edge of the box - well i was hoping. Would have silenced her quick smart.

I haven't bought anything on Tidal. What happens when you donwload them? You have to use itunes to listen to them? So I have to siwtch back and forth from tidal and itunes to listen to Prince? Cmon Man.

When I downloaded them they went straight to my ITunes. You can play them from Tidal though via purchases and add them to playlists if you wish.

I wonder what he's planning to cook up and serve next. rabbit

What are you guys talking about?! You don't 'buy' songs on Tidal! nor do you play songs from Tidal in iTunes! ...they have NOTHING to do with each other. Tidal is a streaming service that works exactly like Spotify. You pay a monthly service fee and you can stream songs on your phone or computer. The cool thing is you can get the Tidal app for your smartphone and actually download the songs to your phone to listen offline when you're not connected to the Internet. Of course if you stop being a Tidal subscriber you lose the songs you've downloaded... that's how these platforms work. I love Tidal and regularly save songs and albums to my phone to listen offline, or I'll just stream something if I want to check it out. Also Tidal isn't just Prince - it has a seemingly infinite catalog of artists from every imaginable genre and era. It's awesome! Buying songs from iTunes is old hat, it's done and over. Streaming is the future. Why pay per song buying them on iTunes when you can pay a monthly fee and have an infinite catalog of millions of songs to listen too? I really appreciate this way off accessing music, it allows room for discovery and endless listening options. Oh and Spotify is great too but for whatever reason Spotify doesn't have Prince in its catalog so my choice was made.

If you pay Tidal $120 for a year of streaming and then stop paying you have nothing. If I spend $120 a year on CDs or downloads and then stop paying I have $120 worth of music. Because, you are right, you don't buy songs on Tidal, you rent them. I don't rent entertainment because it's not good for me economically. So, Tidal is NOT a superior option for me. wink

I used to think like you but I have a whole other mindset on it now. Streaming music allows freedom and flexibility and the ability to listen to far more music than I could possibly afford otherwise. Over the past five years I've moved house several times and I can't tell you how depressing it is to haul boxes and boxes of old CDs and records from place to place. I realized I was no longer listening to about %95 of them, they were just dusty dead weight I was carrying around dragging me down. I also have hard drives of music I've downloaded over the years, illegal and purchased! literally Terabytes of the stuff! It becomes unmanageable and in the end you don't listen to it. So I sold pretty much all my old CDs and records and just kept some prized vinyl LPs. Now I listen to nearly all my music via streaming and the first thing I noticed was my music listening increased tenfold, I also discovered so much more music new and old. Think about it, how much physical (or digital) music is $10 going to buy you a month? ...not much. If you pay a streaming service $10 a month you have an entire world of music at your disposal - literally millions of songs whenever, and wherever you are. I cannot recommend it enough! For anyone who is skeptical I urge you to try streaming for a month and notice how suddenly you'll get excited about exploring new music again. You can go traveling and all this music can be with you anywhere. No longer do I have shelves groaning with the weight of old CDs! ...god, the thought depresses me! The same applies to DVDs, I used to have a large collection, I'd buy box sets etc. and after a while you're not watching them at all and they take up space and become a burden. Now I just use Netflix. I also read books most of the time on my kindle now, and I seriously wouldn't look back - and I can read those same books on my smartphone too with the kindle app. Honestly, this is the way people! Freedom and mobility! and all this information and entertainment accessible anywhere without the burden of physical product. On occasion I'll still buy a book or vinyl record as a souviner almost of something I love, but even still I usually listen or read the same books and music through these mobile digital platforms now. Don't be a Prince! get with the digital revolution!

So true--except for one thing. You do buy songs from Tidal (through the purchasing option), especially these exclusive Prince one-offs that will probably instantly disappear when Prince eventually grows bored or disenchanted with the Tidal platform. So, if you want the music after Prince leaves Tidal (or for some other reason pulls a ouece of music, you but it, download it, and, if you normally listen ti the files you own with iTunes, you listen to it on iTunes.

↑ yes this. You never know if or when Prince pulls his music or certain tracks from Tidal.

I probably won't extend my Tidal subscription when it ends this month, so buying the tracks is the only way to listen to them after that.

And look what Kanye did with his last album (changing/adding tracks on his album weeks after it came available), or the Mono Neon track that changed within a few hours.

Have tried it. Hated it. I do not stream anything and refuse to be dependent on a wifi connection to listen to or watch or read something. I still will listen to, watch & read digital files that I downloaded and have a copy on my device, but never streaming. I also refuse to be dependent on a service not closing shop, an artist deciding to change the art (Star Wars Special Edition comes to mind) or pulling it entirely (NPGMC anyone?). I'm glad you are happy with your rental/streaming options. I'll take a pass. If/when renting/streaming becomes the only way entertainment is distributed, it will be the day that I turn to my shelves full of CDs, records, DVDs, Blurays, books, etc... and be extremely thankful that I'm a collector of products that can't be cancelled or altered and that I don't have to pay anything but the electric bill to enjoy. Just sayin'... wink

I wonder why "PlanetEarth" which included the Grammy Award winning "FutureBabyMama" was taken off?

Planet Earth is still on Tidal.

I'm with you 1000%. I refuse to pay for a streaming service (though I do pay for Amazon Prime). I think it is a waste of money. I will pay for downloads, but prefer physical music for sure.

It's just unfortunate that there is no way to import your own tracks to Tidal (like Apple and Google do, and Spotify in some way) so that you can have all Prince releases in one app.

Well, I don't listen to music on "apps". When I'm not listening to CDs or vinyl I use an iPod classic (that doen't have wifi), don't even own a cellphone.

Look, if you think Tidal will always be there for you and/or that Prince's library will always be available via your Tidal account, good luck to you. Question, can you still listen to both versions of the Mono Neon track on Tidal? I downloaded both versions, so, I can hear either anytime I want...

Look, if you think Tidal will always be there for you and/or that Prince's library will always be available via your Tidal account, good luck to you. Question, can you still listen to both versions of the Mono Neon track on Tidal? I downloaded both versions, so, I can hear either anytime I want...

Dude, you don't get it. Even iPods are over. I've got a 128GB iPhone 6, I have over 40GBs of music downloaded from Tidal on my phone. iPhones ARE the new iPods. Listening via an 'app' makes no difference - that app is my music library and player all in one... your iPod classic is a static brick. I could download any album I choose right now and listen without wifi. I also listen to a lot of vinyl btw... but CDs are dead to me and iTunes is a dinosaur platform with no future.

I get your point, but the downside of streaming is that you have no control over your library. If P deletes his music from Tidal tomorrow you can start building your library all over again, IF he puts it somewhere else.

I had a single release marked as a favourite in Tidal, but when the album came out with that track they simply deleted the single.

For me, the music I really care about is on my phone and iPod (Classic indeed..) and I use streaming only to discover new music.

^ I do the same SkiptheCharades.

Junglehop, I have music on my phone just a 32 GB as well but you might wanna keep your ipods around because if you lose your phone.....backups are essential.

Oh, I get it. Everything you say applies to you. You don't get that it doesn't apply to me. I just checked my "static brick" and it still works fine... lol lol lol
I also can download any album I choose right now, and in seconds sync it to my ipod.
And I don't have to keep paying $10 a month to use it, see? No. I don't think you do. cool

You just doubly confirmed you don't get it! Bwahaha... logging into that dinosaur iTunes and actually 'buying' songs! dude that's just not worth it anymore! It's an antiquated way to listen to digital files. What are you actually buying? Mediocre bitrate digital files that you then have to sync and manage to external devices. You spend $10 on iTunes, put those songs on your iPod and that's it... done - you're left holding your static brick until you buy from the walled iTunes garden again. It's a con, trust me! You're applying an old skool retail mentality to buying zero's and one's - and apple know this. Alternatively paying $10 per month for a streaming service gives you unlimited access to millions of songs, music discovery, mobility and flexibility. It's a music lovers nirvana - you can download whatever you want to listen offline, you can listen across multiple devices immediately, you have choices. I used to be stuck in the iTunes-iPod paradigm until one day I realized it was ridiculous.

Both streaming and old fashion downloading have their pros and cons.
Good luck playing your fav boots or even TGE and TRC @ Tidal..

Umm, no, I bought the lossless download track from Tidal. Sure, if I want to load it on my iPod I'll convert, prob to 320 & that'll be just fine for that device. And I have the lossless that I can do anything with anytime I want. The ipod is merely the convenience device and it suits those purposes just fine.

Why do you think that out of the many options for listening to music the one you favor is best for all and your opinion has any bearing on other peoples situations? Do you act like that in the real world, or just here?

Why can't you put your boots and TGE on your phone from I-Tunes. You can use steaming with other devices. Their is a lot of crappy music so having a chance to listen before buying is great.

Exactly, that's what I said a couple of posts ago. Save what you really like and stream to discover/try. But for this you still need to use an app like iTunes, and some people think that's old skool.

Or even better, upload your own tracks to the streaming service so you can stream your local tracks as well. But Tidal does not have that option, Apple and Google do.

For me personally there are some other reasons not to go all in on streaming yet (preformance of those apps in my car with bluetooth for example).

Actually, you can. I purchased the track. And while one can stream the track, if yo've purchased it on Tiday, there is a finite number of downloads you can have of the track. I think the total is 5?

Just sayin'... wink

But I don't stream my music over wifi constantly. I download albums on the Tidal app to listen offline. I don't think people are clear you can use it this way.

The IPod Classic is GREAT!!!! I've got 25,000 songs on mine with room to go. You can't load nowhere near that amount of music on an IPhone.
