When he pops up on Twitter it is usually meaningless bullshit. He will show some guy who bought the last album, like anybody cares. He will post kudos for the piano rip off shows. I will break in and chide him on putting out a dvd or the vault. Much love P

If he harassed you it would definitely be cool with me. Justifiably.

Regarding the cellphone ban at Paisley Park I can sympathize with the people who have some type of disability such as the guy from out of town who was a cancer patient. It is against federal law to deny any disabled person access to any support they might need and Prince could find himself with a huge liability if his public space does not make allowances for such people.

Somebody who could potentially be in distress should not have their phone taken away, period.

.

Of course the article doesn't mention that MULTIPLE recordings of those concerts started circulating mere hours or days later, so all that effort didn't do shit. So a fail on all fronts: annoyed regular folks, didn't bother bootleggers, and paints Prince as a paranoid luddite.

But at least you can enjoy his concert without 20 idiots all around you all holding up their phone while he's on. Worth it imho

-- Exactly and it has always been against the rules of concert venues to allow recording devices. The rules against bootlegging a concert did not change because of the prevalence of cellphones.

I've never once been bothered by someone holdoing up a phone at a concert. It's also nice to be able to take a picture or two to have the memories.

.

I appreciate Prince's attempt to make his shows cellphone free. He charges a premium for his shows. For that price, I don't want to have my view obstructed by a hand holding up a phone or (worse) iPad to capture 3 minutes of footage.

.

Note that Prince has retweeted such illegal audience pictures, and his great friend Nik West even posted footage of one gig on YT.

It does make a difference. And I think it is the right thing to do if you are the owner of intellectual property to protect it and not abandon it.

It makes the difference to the general consumer and in th elong run. Sure fanatics like us are going to find a way, in our dogged dedication, but as long as it's not out there flagrantly for the general consumer to get easily get, that's all he can hope for right now, and I think that's enough.
Remember, there are a lot of short-sighted people who bemoan the lack of easy availability of his work free of charge as a bad thing. As a detrimental to his legacy or among a newer generation. Which is bullshit. Every generation will have heir own heros and history is no suddenly erased. Any generaion hat cares about music, will seek out the greats. He is not going anywhere.

.

I suggest you look at ninlive.com . But I guess Trent Reznor isn't a genius business man like Prince.

.

It's almost illiterate how he behaves on Twitter, not to mention his "unique snowflake" attitude to retweeting which in his hands ends up stealing other people's content and re-appropriating it -- which reminds me of that fan who got told off for being too busy promoting 3EG and being accused of things he didn't do.

.

No wonder he then deletes his tweets mere minutes or hours later, because they're utterly pathetic.

There have been plenty of cases where artists allowed (and encouraged!) audience recordings. Hell, there's plenty of cases where it is only thanks to bootleggers that we have recordings of bands and gigs that would otherwise have been forever lost. There are whole cults around some "famous" bootleggers who were well-known for taping tons of gigs in their area and thereby capturing some unique moments. There are influential bands where all we have is a single bootleg live recording, even though they were the catalyst for musicians who later became world famous.

The AV Club has noticed the article as well.

If it works for Trent, that's great.

Prince doesn't seem to be in a hurry or desperate enough to try and get any and all crumbs no matter how pittance. If he was, he would be licensing his likeness and pandering re-issues every year from the get go.
I would say the AV Club doesn't get anything they can't.
