Song: Space

-

Not because it's the most brilliant but because it embodies the Prince sexuality theme so perfectly.

Album / Movie - Sign O the Times

Song - The Ballad of Dorothy Parker. The vibe of this song is so unique and so Prince. Undefinable by genre. In the 30+ years I've listened to this album, I don't think I've skipped this song even once.

Great choice - the expanse of that album comes very close to encapsulating the diversity of Prince's genius. It is a concept album without being concept album that sees Prince take the opportunity to use a broader palette of jazz, rock, soul, and gospel - amalgamated in a delicious purple stew that only Prince can cook up. That it denies the mainstream makes it all that much more a masterpiece.

ATWIAD album...seriously who expected that after Purple Rain.

Very intelligent choice. That album and the decision to release it after Purple Rain was brilliant. In a way, it set Prince apart from the rest of the world more than anything he had done. It took courage, insight, and confidence to make that move in the massive wake of Purple Rain.

If I had to pick, say, two songs to play to people to encapsulate Prince's range and unique genius, I would probably play them

'When Doves Cry'

and

'If I Was Your Girlfriend'

These are the moments that stick out to me. I honestly think the current tour might be the culmination of his greatness.

2009 Montreaux Concert
2015 Piano & a Microphone
Sign O' The Times movie and album
Dirty Mind
Rainbow Children
Computer Blue
The Time and What Time Is It?
Lady Cab Driver
She's Always In My Hair
Anna Stesia

THere's so much:

Empty Room

The Grand Progression

But brilliant and typically Prince, perhaps Lovesexy, or the Live LD/VHS/etc.

Also The Paard van Troje thing needs mentioning.

The 20ten Nice version of Dreamer.

I thought so....everyone can name a classic song/album, but for me ATWIAD really showed what Prince was about and the line "Whatever you heard about me is true, I change the rules and do what I want to do" resonated with that album..more than any others, it was so Prince and what made him unique.
