The 'Should Be On PrinceVault' Thread

I thought it would be interesting to have a thread of facts about projects that are, for some reason, not on PrinceVault. Obviously these facts have to fit within what would reasonably meet the criteria for making a PV article.

My contribution - Why doesn't I Could Never Take The Pl...f Your Man list the 12" Man Mix under Unreleased Versions? Not only was it's existance confirmed when an in-house tape from Paisley was sold on eBay many years ago, but it was later leaked in 2013.

Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

I think the reason they're not on Princevault.com is because the person, or people, behind it are doing it in their free time because of their love for Prince. Surely they're not making money, so you really can't fault them when there's something that's not there. I think what's there is exhaustive and well-researched to an amazing degree. They should be commended for it, not have what's not there pointed out.

If you could point out the part where I was trying to tear down everything they've worked for, that would be appreciated, thanks.

Also, if what they're trying to achieve is a thorough recource of information (which they have already done so), I don't see the problem with pointing out when things are missing - in a polite manner.

Given that he top 5 current thread in the forum are ones I've seen 10 times over the last 3 years, I'm rather dissapointed in the lack of activity in this thread too.

I've often been confused as to why the following Martika outtakes have no mention on Princevault:

  • The Do
  • Beautiful Fabulous
  • Rub U Down

Even if there some dispute over whether Prince wrote them or not, shouldn't they be referenced as outtake status on the Martika's Kitchen album entry?

Here ya go:

Obviously these facts have to fit within what would reasonably meet the criteria for making a PV article.

You're implying there's a conspiracy, laziness, or carelessness that preventing these facts from making it into a PV article. I'm saying it's one dude and a computer putting a vast amount of information on the web for free. Cut him a break. I'm sure he'd welcome a submission about whatever song it is you think is being slighted.

I sent them an email once with some info. They added it about a week later after doing their own research. You could always give that a try.

That is the fucking dumbest observation I've ever read on this forum, and KOOLMUSIQ hasn't even posted here yet.

.

They could easily install a plug-in that allows others to contribute without it being published until it is vetted by those in charge. Instead you have to email them and hope they'll read it and agree and add it...

Get databank in on this conversation. IIRC, he's had some experience with PV concerning updates.

Not only there is NO dispute at all regarding Prince's involvement (he had none, whatsoever) but those tracks were NOT outtakes from the Martika's Kitchen album but demos from a late 90's project that never materialized. Besides, Princevault doesn't list unreleased demos from associated artists' albums if Prince had no involvement in them.

The reason why this misunderstanding exists is because some bootleggers got the tapes and decided to include them on a new outtakes collection in the mid-2000's and in order to increase the collection's appeal they said it was Prince, same thing had happened with the unreleased Kim Basinger demos and so on.

No not really, I mailed them twice a few years back to signal mistakes or ommissions or make sugfgestions, once a really nice dude replied, the other time there was no reply but it's OK, they're doing it on their free time as said above. The only thing is that having to send them emails is a too long, too complicated process. As Bart said there should maybe be a highly moderated wiki-type of system or they should open a sticky thread here (or create their own Princevault board) for us to make comments and suggestions. I also must think of a similar system of direct response for my online discog.

The thing is we keep speaking about it here but courstesy would in fact be to mail them about such suggestions, which I'll try and do when I have a little more free time.

They're doing an amazing job but it's like my online discog site, it's impossible to do that on your own, on your free time, and not make small mistakes or ommissions.

Thanks for the feedback databank. My confusion was based on some iffy bootlegs that heavily implied otherwise.

U're welcome. Some bootleggers have no squalms fooling fans with material that's not genuine. Those tracks are pretty cool, though smile
