Time to retire Raspberry Beret and Take Me With U

I think I'm all done with "Raspberry Beret" and "Take Me With U". I used to love those songs, now they sound corny.

Right. Now go tell The Rolling Stones it's time to retire Satisfaction and Brown Sugar. Good luck...

Take Me With U was tired years ago - the weakest song on PR imo.

I fall in and out of boredom with Raspberry Beret - because it is very well written but overplayed.

I like the longer, unreleased version of Take Me With U. The ending is just gorgeous.

Until recently, I would have totally agreed. Hearing him talk about Lisa and Wendy and playing it on piano has given it new life for me. He didn't play it with Take Me With U when I heard it. He actually sang the lyrics and didn't have the audience do the whole song.

Nah, Purple Rain is his "Satisfaction" and "Let's Go Crazy" is his "Brown Sugar". He has way too many other good songs that he can play. I know the fair weather fanse like TMWU and Beret, but screw them! biggrin

It was cool to hear about Wendy and Lisa, but they also did the string intro to "Pop Life" He should play that one now! He never plays it!

The first million times I heard it, especially the drum intro, I loved it, but maybe just need a break. The drums on the intro always reminded me of drums just falling down a hill. Such a cool intro.

I always thought that "Raspberry Beret" was such a corny song smile this song and "Take Me With U" are a little 'too pop' and funk-less to me

I've never heard any Prince songs on the radio and no one but me plays him (in my family), so all his songs still sound fresh to me. Granted, Appolonia's voice is a little bleh but I love that song. And speaking of Raspberry Beret, I was just watching the Detroit bday show. I love the performance of RB during the show! "Mama I think I love yooouuuu"

The only problem i ever had with TMWY is Appolonia horrible voice...i love the song...they had me at the opening drum roll...the sexy finger cymbals throughout the song seal the deal...Raspberry Beret is cool...not my favorite, but a well crafted song...neither should be retired IMO

Guess I appreciate a nice ear of sweetcorn, essential songs live, he plays them and they get the screaming and reaction, songs liked by fam and I have Purple Rain crowd alike.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I'd be okay with RB but not with Take me with U. Average fan wouldn't be happy though.

I don't have that problem, here in Mexico is so rare to ever listen Prince on the radio; most people don't even know who is him; and when they do, they think of him as a weird and gay guy. But what the hell do they know, people over here are so full of prejudice and ignorance.

"Take Me With U" is my favorite song. It's the first song I ever learned how to play on guitar. My daughter sang it with Prince one time. For me, it should NEVER be retired.

Also, I will fight anyone that says "Rock and Roll Love Affair"'s riff is the same as the one on "Take Me With U".

It's the studio version. Edited down for time (I believe) on the PR album. I wish it was in pristine quality, but it sounds good enough to enjoy.
