I found myself listening to 3121 in its entirety several times and feeling how well it has held up - especially next to recent Josh crap. The abum is brilliant - classic Prince in ever way. I had to ponder the distance between the purple genius of Black Sweat to the juvenile EDM produced by an unqualified overrated nobody. That one song beats everything on HNR1 put together. THat is how far it is.

But I stopped to dig myself and consider if I would have been more accepting if the credits read the perrienial Prince tagline -- produced, arranged, composed, and performed by Prince. period. I tried it - but it was diffcult because I knew within seconds of my first listen that something wasnt right. You dont get 37 years of being a hardcore Prince fanatic without getting a third eye (or ear) for his work.

Welll, I've never liked Black sweat and I like everything on Phase 1. There's some great stuf on 3121 but BS isn't among them for me. The high pitched synth is really grating to my ears.

^ me too.. I like Phase 1 very much - I can't say the same about 3121, I find the album very boring..

I do like Black Sweat though even it's so ultra short, a second part with more guitar would have been nice (like with the Kiss maxi single)...

We will have to agree to disagree on that one. I personally find 1000 Hugs And Kisses, while not a terrible song, completely unremarkable and unexciting.

I listened to Phase 1 once.

3121 is one of my favorite coaster (I only save The Dance)
