Paisley park gig report

The report is in french , maybe somebody can translate it in english...

–, Prince n’a quasiment pas parlé, ne lâchant çà et là que quelques timides “thank you”, “D’ya like this one ?”, “You had forgotten that song, uh uh ?”, etc.
Enfin, nous avons eu la chance de découvrir six nouveaux morceaux – The War Script, Love Stories, I Ain’t No Fool, Incantation, The Silent Majority et Wow.

I put the text into Babelfish and though the result is messed up once translated, you can still get a bit more of a gist of what the article says:
---

As promised, and of exclusiveness for Tangential Remix, here the exceptional report of our old friend of Saint-Paul, Peter Cato, who? the lucky devil! assisted a few days ago with a concert very, very private of Prince and its NPG in his cave of Paisley Park?

Frederic Goaty, who m?invite once more, a year and half after my nostalgic report of the only visit of Davis Miles in Paisley Park, the day of l?an 1988 [ note? Jazz Magazine n°519, 2001] October , to express my admiration for l?infatigable Prince. I have had to acknowledge that even if j?ai have the chance d?assister for more than twenty years to many concerts of Prince to the four corners of the United States and in Europe, that to which j?ai been able to assist saturdays last 8 March? thanks to l?amicale collaborator complicity d?une of the?Boss? room (immense special a thanks to her ?) m?a époustouflé like seldom! If the next concerts of Prince resemble this fantastic performance (repetition for a future round for promotion d?un future disc? no one does not know it yet?), l?an 2003 will be even more exciting that 2002!
Made rather rare: did the concert start to 23 H, which is surprisingly early for a late bedder as Prince? There are hardly 200 people in the large room, that one even where, l?an last, it gave at the time of its third Celebration an unforgettable acoustic concert. I recognize some friends, and in particular Sara Remke , joint owner of the coffee Black Dog , which does not cease d?organiser formidable?anti-war left? where each one comes to express its dégout vis-a-vis the horrible actions of our president not-elected official; Ricky Peterson (always also sharp!) 6 news songs were played: The War Script, Love Stories, I Ain’t No Fool, Incantation, The Silent Majority and Wow.

The War Script is an engaged song , it's a rock song with distord guitar , Blackwell play like John Bonham (Led Zep) and organ on fire.Prince is angry against the Bush governement.

Love Stories is a strange sad love song with a lot of electronic sounds like in the 1999 era. That's a hit!

I Ain’t No Fool is quit like "love stories" but with more warm.Prince is still angry.

Incantation is a fantastic instrumentale-suite in 3 parts. The last part blow!

The Silent Majority is a dark ballad , about the paranoia in America.

Wow, is a pop song à la "4-ever in my life"

It seems to have taken place on Saturday, March 8, 2003, and was made up of VIP and local Mpls industry types and friends and consisted of "hardly 200 people".

This is from what I can tell from the article, at least..

Wasn't that album title "2000 Free: The Revelation Year"
already reported on here some time ago.

I don't know anymore. The general verdict seemed to be
that it was a fake. But now I'm doubting again.

Please let this be true. Sounds like a very interesting
new project with lots of political input and some heavy
guitar work and 1999 era electronics.

I don't care what other people say, I always like when
Prince comments on social or political issues. For me,
"avalanche" was one of the best songs from the npgmc
this far.

But this n’est not the whole Dark, I'S Wish U Heaven, Walk of which Walk, Willing & Able, Come (of which the words evidently were “radoucies”…), When U Coils Somebody, I'S Feel For You, Little Red Corvette, Moonbeam Levels (yes!) and Paisley Park profit also formidable d’un work of réécriture, to l’instar of the three astonishing returns that spiced with chili the concert – Coils I's The Answer ofTodd Rundgren (very near of the original version of 1977 recorded one by the group of Todd, Utopia, in “Oops! Wrong Planet”), Jesus of Curtis Mayfield (“There’s No Places Like America Today”, 1975) and Too High of Stevie Wonder (“Innervisions”, 1973), of which one would swear qu’elle had been written for Prince… at last, we had the luck to discover six new pieces – The War Script, Coils Stories, I'S Ain’t No Fool, Incantation, The Silent Majority and Wow. The War Script moon of the songs the more “concerned” never never composed by Prince: on a very rock bottom, indeed almost hard-rock (contorted guitares, Blackwell “johnbonhamesque”, organ in boiling), it scande his anger and its fears – to little to the manner d’un Saul Williams – facing the current bellicisme of the Bush administration. S’il l’entend a day (nothing less sure n’est…), George will not like. On the other hand, you, you will worship! Coil Stories a strange song d’amour sad tinged electronic, repetitive chromatismes, dancing, that sounds finally as a formidable outtake of “1999” and, especially, a tube in power – so only this song could appear quickly and profit not few qu’un promotion radio… I'S Ain’t No Fool n’est very removed from Coils Stories, although warmer, more r’n’b. There again, Prince, on a method more ironic, we says his anger (or rather his vexation) concerning the political applied interior in
his country. Prince, engaged new singer? Incantation is a dazzling instrumental continuation in three parties – the last one is frank abrasive – that gives l’occasion to all the souffleurs to give the better d’eux very one. The fans of Weather Continuation and Miles of the years 72-75 not steps should remain indifferent… And Prince loosens a solo of collected and explosive guitare. (Little d’avenir radio for this piece on the other hand…) The Silent Majority a dark ballad of which the text, a time of more very engaged, scoffs at the American paranoïa, qu’elle be white or black. Again a title that, s’il ends up to be published, should not leave indifferent person. (Has true to say, this song my fact to think of the scene of the “fuck you’s” in the last film Spike It…) Wow, at last, is a pop song gospel to the Forever In My Life with which one Prince concluded the evening, to 1h15 precise. Impossible, to current l’heure, to say if the next concerts of l’Artiste will resemble this one, if the set list will be identical, and even if the musicians of the NPG will be those that were there this evening là… All this qu’on succeeded learning (always thanks to our girlfriend…), c’est that the site of the Music Club was currently “under reconstruction” (l’“experience.03” will be, we one has promised, exceptional), that the new albumwas therefore already finished and qu’il should
appear to the month of June, when Prince will pretend not to celebrate its 25 years of career and its 45 years all short one all while the party…"

Sure sounds like a dreamgig to me, what a nice setlist! The new band is even more bluesy and funky according to the article, a new guitarplayer and percussionist are added, as well as Atlanta Bliss! I hope Prince will tour again soon! headbang
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Wasn't that album title "2000 Free: The Revelation Year"
already reported on here some time ago.I don't know anymore. The general verdict seemed to be that it was a fake. But now I'm doubting again.

Yes, I remember reading that here too. I tried to find the thread about it but couldn't.

And I doubted it then, as well, but now...weell...

Please let this be true. Sounds like a very interesting new project with lots of political input and some heavy guitar work and 1999 era electronics.

I don't care what other people say, I always like when
Prince comments on social or political issues. For me,
"avalanche" was one of the best songs from the npgmc
this far.

Agree with all the above. biggrin

I really reallly really hope with all my heart this album pans out to be true. It has all the elements of being totally FANTASTIC.

OK, first I´ve got to say that I´m neither french nor english and I know both of those languages only from school. But I´m trying to translate that for you. Here are the first few sentences, now I´m starting to translate the rest:

"First a big thank you to my host Frederic Goaty, who invited me one more time, one year and a half after my nostalgic report of the only visit that Miles Davis ever gave to Paisley Park on new years eve 1998 (Jazz Magazine no. 519, October 2001), to show my admiration for the never exhausted Prince. I got to admit that even as I have had the chance to witness many Prince-concerts in the United States and Europe over the last twenty years, the one I was able to see on Saturday, 8th march, left me breathless speechless as seldom before! If future Prince-concerts are like this fantastic performance (on an upcoming tour to promote a new CD? Who knows...), the year 2003 is going to be even more exciting than 2002!"
See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...
