I know nobody cares but since we are sharing info about this album, I have a story. Although it was never listed anywhere, he told us he was recording us - the audience - for a new album. I can't confirm if it happened but the crowd noise you hear on "I Like Funky Music" is from the Houston - Jam of the Year (Jam of a Lifetime) New Year's Eve gig 97/98. In between songs he just told us to scream it a few times since we were "going to be on his next album". Love this thread by the way, and thanks everyone for sharing info. [Edited 2/9/16 15:33pm]

I think there was quite a few versions of the chant recorded. At some shows in mid 1997 he was performing Eye Like Funky music with the pre-recorded chant, only it was different version. I was watching a bootleg from Jan 1998, during Face Down they go into Freaks on this Side (forgotten song - wow, what a dark funky number with some great harmonies from Marva), with the chant being triggered by Morris Hayes, so a lot of those chants came from mid-late 1997.
Now while talking about credits, The Work pt 1 originally had Kirk Johnson on drums, i'm not sure of at that point it was a seperate stand alone track, or that the ideas for the Rainbow Children were already in place during later summer 2000, John Blackwell was drumming with Prince and jamming throughout summer 2000, alongside Kirk. A bit like a cross over period.
And sadly some parts end up being assumed as Prince, when they are in fact from his very talented band members! Take the guitar licks throughout When U Love Somebody, they are of course from the wonderful Mike Scott. NPS is a strange album, fans really have no idea how many parts are played by Mike, Katt, Rhonda and Mr Hayes.
I'td be great for all the fans who love archiving and getting a definitive track by track siye together.

Interesting! I also recall another concert I attended for that tour where he played Freaks on This Side and made us do the same thing with the chanting. I guess we will never really know. One day someone just needs to put out a very detailed book to end all books with this type of detailed info in it.
