Rock N Roll Love Affair on repeat Okay I heard this song a few years ago and thought it was meh... Then when I heard it on Phase Two I still thought it was decent. Now for the last two days for some reason I can't stop listening to it. It's crazy. I still think it's like the 10th best song on this album but I am obessessed with those "Take Me With U" horns throughout. I belive in fairy tales and Prince!

They are not "Take Me With U" horns! Different melody, different key, lines start on a different beat....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! [Edited 1/25/16 14:15pm]

I've come to like it better too in the context of Phase 2. Still one of the weaker tracks though on the album, but solid nevertheless. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

It is like taking the line from the old song and just fitting it to the new one by adjusting the technical details of the music, but it functions the exact same way, just more laid back. And I'm sure it's an intentional reference. Prince loves referencing himself musically, and he loves adding elements to his production that use nostalgia (even unconscious memory on the part of the listener) to make it resonate in the target audience; perhaps the aged teenagers who were watching Purple Rain at the movies and on VHS.

I like the (#7?) remix of this song... The others--meh. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Both this one and Baltimore have grown massively on me since they became part of an Phase 2. To be honest, I hated them both and now I no longer skip them. Still, I'd like the album to start with a proper banger instead, then have those two tracks.

It's a good song but the extended mix should have been on the album Welcome 2 The Dawn

R&NLA, Baltimore, Groovy Potential and Stare also grew on me a LOT since they're on the album. Same with Fallinlove2nite on Phase One. Having songs on an album, provided one doesn't skip tracks, allows them to grow on u while haveing random files makes it easy not to pay much attention to them. That's y I really favor albums over orphan songs. I hope more of those 2013 songs find their way to Phase 3-5 if there's gonna be 5 phases as speculated A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I've always liked this song. All versions. The one on HNR Phase Two might be my favorite. It's nothing all that special or out of the ordinary. It's just a tight little pop tune that shows Prince still has some major chops. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I've seen it live twice and it was great both times, especially the piano version he did recently.

Yep, I'm the same. I just wished he used the longer version! But, luckily I can extract the new horns an vocals and just overdub them on it. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

So you got to ask yourself, if you say it has no relationship to "Take Me With You" than why are so many people saying it harkens back to that string line... and more?
Then realizing that all music is simply is creating an emotional logic and reaction through notes, tone, rhythm and arrangement (and technicalites like theory, notation, note strikes style are simply trying to describe or grasp this creation of emotional logic), how well are these technicalities actually defining music?
Let's put it this way. When there is a soundalike created for a commercial (where arrangement and notes are re-arranged to get around paying for recording or publishing rights) but a person can immediately recognize what the music is trying to imitate, but technically it is not that same music.... well then it shows how flimsy those technicalities are in trying to define music. In fact, it shows their lack of ability to define music.
All I'm saying is that if it seems to sound like something to the ear of many listeners, then it IS actually sounding like that. The perception defines what it is. The notes, and other measurements don't actually mean anything in proportion to the perception.
This is probably why some trained musicians are the worst at composing and arranging anything original but great at playing something already marked out and defined technically.
You would think that all trained musicians could simply be given emotional descriptions and then make music that caused that reaction. But that aint true!
The songs both also have a leisurely pace, like a Sunday drive, they both also have the a female voice respond with a fragment of dialog at one moment. There is a warmth there too (with melodic bass) that is not normally part of Prince's brand of music.
Do you hear how Jughead is actually Housequake redone?

PS, he has remixed the version on the new album to de-emphasize the synth lines. Makes it remind one less of "Take Me With U" My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

This song is another nail in the coffin as far as new Prince music is concerned. There is no hope for Prince. He has aged between the ears horribly. Thank you Larry G. Maybe Prince should have like a GREATEST MISSES album, for all the songs (like Dinner With Delores) that were too bad to be good and probably never should have come out, but not so bad that you feel like hitting the skip button when they come on.

The one with the same bass as Groovy Potential on it ? i like it too ! "You can skate around the issue if you like,

It's a great trackand has sounds nothing like TMWY. Just a cool rock track. If you like the silly remixes cool, but to me it just makes a nice chill tea taste like sugary koo-aid

I could layer those songs and you'd hear that they have the same structure and also the same triple beat rhythm device. In Housequake it's with the stomping noise, in Jughead its the voices together doing the same thing. I could layer them up as one track and see what happens... maybe a demon would come out.
