It's been a long time since I listened to an audience recording all the way through! Wonderful performances.

Sounds to me like a first night of a work in progress. Very little audience interaction, that could really add to it on a tour.

This, if toured, could be completely unique each night. I hope that's the plan.

Can't wait to hear these shows in soundboard quality one day!

First of all, thanks to the person who took the risk of recording the second show and putting it out there. The quality is pretty good even if some of the audience hollering, comments and chit chat occasionally get in the way. I'm going to moan a bit about the crowd noise but I do realise it's hard to criticise people for getting excited and having a good time.

The mistimed audience member "wow" and the cough during Wow pretty much kill the opener for me. Actually, I thought things get off to a pretty slow start as Prince meanders through Wow, The Love Me Make, Look At Me Look At You and a lacklustre instrumental rendition of The Question Of U. It's not really until he gets to Call My Name that I really sit up and take notice. This is when I feel his vocals start to fly and he gets into a groove.

He follows up with an interesting rendition of Purple Rain, which is all about his vocals and not a lead in to the usual extended guitar solo. I felt he was able to uncover something new in all of the classics he did, such as Nothing Compares 2 U (with a nice lyrical slip recovery), How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore? (the moment when he really seems to get the audience - and "the woman with the big feet" - fired up) and The Ladder (it may have been truncated but I loved the power in his vocals).

There was a danger the whole thing was going to collapse into a big old jolly singalong with I Wanna Be Your Lover, Raspberry Beret and Starfish and Coffee. While there was something of interest to be found in all of them, I've always hated it when he lets the audience take over singing duties. Even though I know that's all part of being an entertainer and putting on a show, it somehow cheapens the songs and his musicianship for me.

Happily, he pulls things back with Venus De Milo. Everyone seems to have settled down and he hits his stride with Sometimes It Snows In April, in which the audience stays commendably quiet. The way he repeated "so bad" gave me chills. The lyrical embellishments to Dear Mr. Man were enjoyable: Michigan oil spill, "take all the guns away" and "Is God running?"

Things are going along nicely but following a sweet perfomance of A Case Of You, somebody must have let the audience back in. They just can't help but sing(?) along throughout Kiss, goddamit. I'd like to hear this done right as it sounds like it probably works much better as a piano piece than all the band renditions he's given us through the years. Black Sweat also seems to suit the bluesy piano treatment. I was surprised at how well Free Urself worked as a closer. This is the one time when I was happy to hear the audience sing us out.

All in all, I thought it was a great performance. I'm sure that's partly due to the novelty of the situation but there were enough moments that reminded why I started following Prince all those years ago.

Totally agree. It's half decent for an audience recording and better than not having it at all. As you say some great performances and mainly full songs. Good to hear some newer and rarer stuff. Let's hope he tours with this in smallish theatres

I'd pay to see that! Throw in a Tony - Jerome duet, and David Bowie tribute featuring the vocals of Larry Graham and it's history in the making.

I Hope Prince releases this anyway and without edits.

[/rubbingthegenielamp]

I still enjoy earlier leaked soundboards and the are a testament for his skills and musicianship.

A lot of people who doubted him were won over as I played them those shows.

Some even went to concerts and bought some albums after that.

Some might say : Willing to do the Work, Prince, what about you?

Prince will not release these.

Did he release 3-3-83?

Did he release the Indigio2 aftershows?

Did he release the O2 shows?

Did he release [insertyour'special'gighere]?

No he didn ot and if he did it was edited, dubbed over, incomplete, etc, etc.

It appears you do not understand reality well enough to grasp that this statement is a recipe for disaster. See `the FED`, see the US state's status as debtor, etc, etc, etc.

.

Just use some of the money you still may have, while these bills still have some purchasing power left, to obtain them b00tz.

Y'all can shoot me in the face, but, impresive and daring as it may be, I don't like the piano concept that much. While listening to the first show, I tend to skip through it quite a lot.

If this question is not allowed, please forgive me and delete it (I'm not always clear on what can be asked or in what way asking certain things is 'ok') but is there just one recording (of both shows) circulating or is there another one as well? I ask because what I've got isn't very clear and I can scarcely hear Prince when he speaks yet other posts are commenting like they're hearing him well, and that the recording/s are fairly clear. Thanks in advance and sorry again if this question isn't allowed.

Yeah, man, this is what I'm talking about!!! Great stuff right here! clapping

This is one of those rare performances where even though it's an audience recording, I can still listen to it and love it. That said, I would do bad things to good people to get a soundboard of this. Or better yet, a bluray! evillol

If Prince cut together a CD of this material and PROMOTED it, I bet WB would put it out and he'd have a hit for sure. I'm all for more Phases of the HitNRun project, but something like this would go over great both critically and commercially. twocents

I like this so much better than the One Nite Alone piano CD, even more than the old Intimate Moments With Prince bootleg. This is like the old piano medleys he use to do on all his old tours expanded into a full show. headbang

Gonna listen again... music

On the first show the sound quality is nowhere close to as good as the second show. The performance is fantastic, though.

Thanks for your reply. I agree about the performance being fantastic and I'm really thankful I can hear this show at all! I have the second show but I have to convert the .rar files and haven't found a way to do that yet where I don't have to pay (the online sites I found where one can convert .rar to mp3 say the file is too large and therefore, the site charges a fee) so hopefully I can figure that out soon and listen to that second show!

.rar files just need to be unzipped and there are tons of free programs that do it (try Winrar). From there you should be working with FLAC which is easy to convert to MP3. wink

I've only listened to the beginning of the show, but I can barely make out anything he says (it sounds like he's talking underwater while being slapped repeatedly). If I hadn't read descriptions of his comments, I'm not sure I would have understood anything from the intro.

I was there - standing right behind him on the piano in the corner under a speaker - and even I could not make it what was being said because there were so many effects being used. He would play a note and then stand up and walk around the piano in a circle...it was a strange way to start the show for sure...but it got a lot better!
