If Prince is over , what some of yall still doing here.
One word y'all: remasters!
Okay three: vault tracks!
Until you're burning up!
But you just said nothing good will ever happen to Prince's career forevermore, so why are you waiting for remasters and vault tracks?
If he starts releasing those, won't it be a good thing for his career?
Essentially, you're waiting for what you're sure won't happen.
Rocket science!

A fool hopes against hope.
And no, it won't be good for Prince, because critics with ears will conclude: man, he's really lost it. How can you go from 1980-1995 including those great vault tracks to 1996-now. The Prince Is Over-threads will then appear in all major newspapers across the world instead of
on this forum.

Physical CDs - digital bits that are burned onto a disk that can scratch and unless you import the bits to your computer/phone you have to have the disc with your and loaded to listen to it
digital download - digital bits already on your computer/phone which can be played anytime/anywhere you want
If digital downloads were created first and CDs came along later, nobody would buy CDs. |

People are still buying cd's... David's Bowie BLACKSTAR sold a total of 321,000 copies in it's first week. That's only counting the U.S. and U.K. charts too. |

So issuing remasters won't be good for Prince either because then critics will discover he's no good anymore, even though there are several classic albums they can use to draw that conclusion right now if they so wish.
Maybe you shouldn't rail against "apologists" so much when you have this monumental negative fixation with biases all over it. There are quite a few gapping holes in your statements on this thread alone.

Issuing remasters will put it all in sharper perspective.
And life's logic is full of gaping holes. But maybe it's true and Prince can't ever win.
Maybe he should just pack it in.

I didn't say people aren't buying CDs, I said if CDs were new, nobody would buy them. People buy them because they are used to buying them, not because they are better than a digital download. A physical CD is still a less convientent digital copy.

we could all benefit from a sharper perspective.
remasters=the only redemption IMHO.

Yeah, but those digital downloads usually cost about the same as the physical CD. The CD can be ripped and now the customer has a digital copy AND a CD which the buyer can collect or even resell to recoup some of the cost.
I just checked Amazon. They have the album 1999 on CD for $5 AND the CD comes with a free MP3 copy so lazy customer's don't even need to spend the 5 minutes it takes to rip the disc themselves. OR, Amazon also offers the MP3 version of the album... for $8.99!!!!!
Only a complete moron would choose to spend almost twice as much for the MP3 as for the CD and MP3 bundle. That said, I would not be even a little bit surprised to find out that they sell more MP3s than CDs. (Yes, I'm saying I believe most of their customers are morons.)
EDIT> Looking a little closer, they have similar deals for Purple Rain & ATWIAD... HILARIOUS!!

I want to have something to hold in my hand and to look at. Is that so hard to understand? It's nice to have a great collection of CD's and vinyls with nice artwork, booklet, liner notes to read. And you can rip them and make a digital copy yourself. [Edited 1/16/16 12:33pm] |

It is inconvienient. tablets, phones and many computers don't come with CD/DVD drives. And if your plan is to rip it to listen to it, the CD is really just another way to do a digital download. |

IF the only reason an individual buys a CD is to rip it, you might have a point.
For those of us arguing the virtues of physical copies over digital copies, getting a rip is NOT the reason to buy the CD, it is a bonus. For those of you arguing against CDs, that digital copy that we see as a bonus is all you want. So, yeah, for you guys, the easiest is to buy the download.
If you can't see the difference in our perspectives than just go on thinking what's right for you is right for everyone. Good luck with that.

My initial repsonse was to someone who won't buy the album unless there is a physical CD. It's not someone choising one over the other when both are available.
And I'll stand by my original statement, if downloads were created first, CDs would never catch on. |

I buy digital when it's not a top favorite artist and/or when I want something instantly. Well, or if there's a sale on the digital version. Otherwise I buy CDs and then rip them at 320 Kbps (I can't tell the different between 320 and lossless, but I can between 256 and 320). I don't see any need to go fully digital or fully physical.
I'd like to start buying vinyl but I'd also like to stay married and able to afford food. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

He's followed that up with a tweet about it being for sale outside of that, presumably. @Prince3EG said:@ 4:02 AMPantal @DjPanta #purplearmy We need 2 get a petition going to get Phase two released worldwide. NUN NEEDED. IT'S COMING! LET'S STAY WIT IT! This says to me that it will soon be released, that a distribution deal is in place. I presume one that is at least a step up from twitter fans riding u out copy on their bike after u tweet them a payment. |
