I tracked all the sales from the beginning... It's in a thread somewhere here on the org... It sold over 200k total worldwide. Wasn't a big seller but it wasn't a disaster.
Plectrum Electrum and HitnRun Phase 1 are the two lowest selling Prince albums right along with N.E.W.S.

Plectrum Electrum and HitnRun Phase 1 are the two lowest selling Prince albums right along with N.E.W.S. 200k is huge numbers in this day and age. I know of an artist who had a #1 single in the US, and songs with all the biggest rap artists on....his album sold less than 2000 copies on a major label with at least two big budget videos. The vast majority of listeners are either streaming or downloading illegally. |

Ouch! So much for the people claiming Prince is the only artist in the world not selling nowadays. Thx for fixing the clocks. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

either that or most of the music being produced by big labels is complete garbage made by morons
music that people actually like will sell if it is on a big label being pushed
p pop music is better than the pop music being promoted .. but its not great music in general .. aoa was solid enough to sell 200,000 .. that makes sense to me ... a lot of tunes a prince fan could enjoy .. not rave about endlessly but not be in pain while listening .. the hnr and p3e projects were both so out there vanity indulgence that even the p loyalists cant be bothered
so p can sell 200,000 on his best day .. so that is good .. if he ever came out with something so true organic and heartfelt that it resonates with more than his hooker army, he could sell more, like adele
p seems so dilusional these days that i highly doubt he could write anything so honest and real that it connects with the masses again ... there will always be cosby level lyrics like 2y2d that just creeps out most people who arent predators .. there will always be pointless guest rappers and dumb new stock noises to throw in .. there will always be shallow bragging and attempts to be hugh heffner on wax .. stuff that most people just cant dig
aoa was probably the best we will get for a while .. p must have shown a lot of restraint in making wb happy enough to release it ...

So in your world, an album that sells 200,000 copies is a bigger flop than an album that sells 2,000 copies.
I'm glad you don't work for my record label. |

It was the biggest selling album worldwide on its first week of release...if thats considered a flop nowadays then we are all up against it... [Edited 1/4/16 17:59pm]

I'm glad you don't work for my record label. AOA should be a broken record. We all talk about the new album, whichever it is. ..and that 200 thou number is highly suspect. I highly doubt it "sold" a 1/4 of that amount. An 1/8 of that amount. [Edited 1/4/16 18:56pm]

AOA is not a terrible album at all. I personally would consider it one of this most consistent albums of recent times. HitNRun Phase 2 is better again in my opinion. His weakest albums of recent years in my honest opinion would be 20Ten and HitNRun Phase 1. But that is merely my opinion.

200,000 it's a bigger flop than 2000, and anyway the numbers are fake, and it's all because the music is bad because as everyone knows good music systematically sells and poor music systematically doesn't, and so on and so on. If saying the sun revolves around the Earth would allow certain people here to say that Prince's recent music sucks, or whatever album they dislike sucks, or that Prince is over and done, or a complete bastard, they wouldn't hesitate to claim the sun revolves around the earth. I'm really tired of the intellectual dishonesty of all those people who have a personal vendetta against Prince, this is just trolling if u ask me. Bored people who have nothing to do but trolling and turning an online community into a madhouse. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Databank you are absolutely right and this is a matter of deep, deep concern for this site. I have suspected for many years that this fan site had been taken over by trolls and singularly-motivated anti-prince lobbies. This has now reached a stage where new visitors to the site get turned off prince's music by reading the nonsense here. I AM NOT AGAINST INFORMED CRITICISM, I MYSELF CRITICISE. BUT THE LEVEL OF DISCOURSE OF MANY PRINCE HATERS HERE IS SO ABYSMAL IT SMACKS OF PERSONAL VENDETTA. I wish there was some way to enhance the level of discourse here, so casual trolls, or paid trolls, would anyway be up against it and then stay quiet.

Look if someone does not agree with you on something is not a vandetta or "intellectual dishonesty" or a vast conspiracy. I have not said anything to folks who dislike Phase one or two, or those who did like AOA. Calm down. It's ok. C'mere, hush ,that's right, let's rock together, it's alright. yeah you're a good baby, that's right..

Saying you're not saying what you're saying isn't gonna fool anyone, even though I know it's a common practive over here. Twisting facts by saying that official sales figures are false without a glimpse of an evidence is indeed intellectual dishonesty. For all I know just if I don't like Purple Rain then it probably sold 3M copies while we're at it? Saying that an album that sold 200,000 copies is bigger a flop than an album that sold 2000 is intellectual dishonesty. Saying that AOA (which I personally don't like much if u need to know, but one has to admit it was very well received by a great majority of the people here at the time, not that it makes it a better album but that shows there's space for discussion) is a "terrible album', period is making an opinion a fact, and that's also intellectual dishonesty. Saying that the quality of an album has an impact on its sales is intellectual dishonesty (that would make Britney Spears a better artist than Miles Davis!). You could simply express your disliking for AOA and also care to open a debate by making a constructive criticism of it. No hard feelings, though, but don't ask me to pretend there's no intellectual dishonesty when I see it. You're trying to sell us vacuum cleaners, don't complain if some people complain about it. Is someone comparing AOA to Miles Davis? I won't blame anyone of intellectual dishonesty, but just fooling themselves. Even Britey thinks it's beneath her. I agree.

It's a pity I wonder how many valuable contributors we've lost because of that IDK what you guys (the mods) can do about it: how did they manage at Housequake to avoid things going down that road? Did then ban like crazy or did they manage to keep the level of discussions higher by other means? Are there other Prince boards currently active (and not nearly desertic) that manage to avoid the "personal anti-Prince campaigns" and other absurdities and if so how? That's more a discussion for the Org forum anyway, and maybe that's more one you may need to have among mods than publicly anyway, but I think it'd be one worth having: the Org is a place I for one feel I can't avoid because this is (AFAIK) where all the interesting discussions take place, and where all the new info is, but at the same time those interesting things are lost in such a wild jungle that, as u say, it can be discouraging. Now I don't wanna derail the thread, sorry if I did. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Of course, whomever doesnt express the same opinion as yours, is a troll. And by the same token, feel that people are somehow denied the right to express your like-minded opinons too. Makes a lot of sense. Where can I line up for whatever you folks are taking?

We've lost quite a few. I could probably name at least a dozen. I think HQ had the same problem, to be honest. It's an issue that we are aware of, but I can't really say anything more in public, feel free to orgnote me if you want to discuss it though
